Heaps Mill Now Grade II Listed Is About To Be Threatened Again With A Monstrous Scheme.

Oh No it makes you despair. We save Heaps Mill from destruction and the developer appoints Falconer Chester Hall, the architectural whores of Liverpool  to come up with a crap scheme that is going to destroy the whole essence, of the now, listed building.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/heaps-rice-mill-listed-by-english.html

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/heaps-mill-english-heritage-slam-plans.html

Liverpool Confidential writes up the story, that is knocked out by PR whores Dougal Paver who are tying to pull the wool over the eyes of the public....again; Shame on you, don't you care about the heritage of your city, or do you just turn a blind eye like the other moles at Archetype Studios or is it Aurora Media.
http://www.liverpoolconfidential.co.uk/News-and-Comment/Where-theres-a-mill-theres-a-way

Liverpool Confidential quite rightly put an arrow showing where the Mill is.........practically obliterated.
All plans that are near or adjacent to a listed building have to be treated with respect for the listed structure.

This scheme is an insult to the intelligence to all those who fought to save the building from demolition.
Don't trust the Merseyside Civic Society on this scheme. though they did a good job on the listing, Peter Brown its Chairman is 'bessy' mates with the directors of Neptune Developments who have plans passed for an equally awful scheme on the old Lamb and Sons, the last ships Chandlers in the city.
Once owned by Trevor and Doreen Jones (who passed Mann island with casting vote as planning committee chairperson) right next to Heaps Mill.
These plans would not be passed now, as the affect the listed status of Heaps Mill.
Peter Brown promoted the Three Black coffins on behalf of Neptune, in our opinion stitching the public up with an architectural disaster when he as Chairman should know better.
We dont trust any of them at MCS.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2010/04/merseyside-civic-society-heritage.html

Just why are they supporting building on Sefton Meadows when the public is against it.It all looks well dodgy to the writer. They only have 90 members and on average 4 turn up to a meeting.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/controversy-civic-society-says-build-6429590

Don't believe the hype.
The fight to save Heaps Rice Mill has only just begun.

John Hinchliffe Tries To Shaft Us.

We predicted it was going to be a whitewash and that's what the World Heritage Officer tried.

We have it down in writing, how the meeting was to be formulated, but when we got there the double dealing Hinchliffe tried to direct us into a forum.
"You have had years to organise debates and you want one now today, there is not a chance"
Ian Wray of the world heritage steering group says "I am the chair"
"I am the table, I said, and I will not be going into any meeting being led by a council poodle"

I had already told Trevor Skempton and Peter Brown of the Civic Society, who do not have a remit on this matter, from the group, as this has not been a meeting to discuss it, I am reliably informed, that I would not be setting foot in any room with them.
David Swift stood his ground with me. Florence Gersten was already upstairs, she had been excluded from any meetings until we complained.
So Hinchliffe, who has sat shuffling paper for 5 years, now wants to turn into a negotiator.
"Not a chance" I told him "We are not being pushed around in a pram by you, like you did last time"
Hearing the noise and me throwing my arms around and telling Hinchliffe. "Not a chance, full stop you are not going to stifle what I have to say and we will only meet the inspectors privately"
Ron Van Oers who we met last time in the 2006 visit came over and said just as I said "That it I am going" waving my hands.
"Would you like a private meeting"..............."Yes"............"We will come down and see you shortly"

Hinchliffe said "Oh yes we have a spot ICOMOS UK have not turned up"
"Are there any reports on Liverpool Waters from ICOMOS UK", I asked him
"Errrr not sure, there may be", he waffled
"Of course the City Council joined them as a corporate member did they not"
"Err maybe"
So Hinchliffe, the double dealer had been telling all that the meeting was to be transparent, yet Peter de Figeuirido, the 'Opinion for hire' now working for Peel, was with the party at the Pier Head.
(He was the historic buildings advisor for English Heritage once, therefore a colleague of Henry Owen-John.
Owen John was there, as was Graham Ives "You probably has seen my name on various reports"
Yes far too many I thought I would not trust you as far as I could throw John Hinchliffe.

The mission came downstairs, and asked us some questions about who we represent, then we told them we don't recognise any steering group and cannot trust the MCS, and told them the reasons, we advised them that Hinchliffe is a total waste of space will do anything his paymasters tell him...........and that last time you were here.......Mr Van Oers.......... you let us down badly, I told him that he failed to grasp the gravity of the situation, when the Black Coffins were under planning, The City Council then under Warren Bradley promised to protect the World Heritage Site.
"If I remember rightly there were three, the Ferry Terminal the museum and Mann Island"
"You needed to be stronger and give advice, they are all carbuncles, if that's not affecting the Outstanding Universal Value then what is" I told him.
"We had to compromise English Heritage were in support of it"
"Yes but I told you their Chairman Sir Neil Cossons was working for the Liverpool Museums and they had promised him a steam train exhibition to curate, and Loyd Grossman the ex chair was he Museums Chair of NML"
He went on to give a long explanation and I looked at him along with Patricia Alberth and Mr Barbato who said nothing, and said
"You made a major mistake that we have to live with for ever, you got it badly wrong"
He was a bit shaken and said "Look I can assure you this time we will not be making any mistakes, this is very serious"
David Swift had handed them a print run of pictures of the Mann Island and Pier Head before and after, and there it was plain as day, architectural vandalism had occured.

Hinchliffe then came in and asked if we could finish the meeting as there was others waiting upstairs
"You have had 20 minutes"

He's so kind, the double dealing waste of space that is supposed to be employed to protect World Heritage not roll over like a fluffy poodle, and have his belly tickled by any Spiv or Speculator that wants to build anything in the World Heritage Site.

Todays paper sees Joe Anderson proclaiming we will protect our heritage.....look what we did to the Bluecoat...............knocked down Herbert Tyson Smiths Workshop, that was intact and created a plastic palace.............Warren Bradley, now Joe Anderson, Its Dumb and Dumber.

Merseyside Civic Society Are To Meet The Unesco Monitering Mission-Why?

Its Peter Brown and Trevor Skempton..what a joke, rolled out by the council in order to help them establish they are having a consultative exercise and not the whitewash they are intending to carry out next week when three Unesco delegates visist Liverpool. They did the same the last mission came here in 2006

Peter Brown said this about the Three Black Coffins on Mann Island. in an article written by Willian Leece and Peter Elson  http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2009/06/24/jury-still-out-on-liverpool-mann-island-blocks-92534-23960446/
Peter Brown, chairman of Merseyside Civic Society, personally feels that the Mann Island scheme is a good one, although other society members disagree.

“I’ve been quite happy with the way it’s been handled and the final outcome. It would have been better if there was a masterplan, but in its absence this is the best scheme.
“My view is that it complements both the new museum and the Pier Head Three Graces.
“The new Mann Island blocks are square and black, so it’s a stark contrast with the white of the sloping new Museum of Liverpool and the classicism of the Three Graces.
“I think it’s a mistake to keep a ‘fire free’ zone between Albert Dock and the Pier Head. There is a need for financial stimulation in that area and to show entrepreneurial skills.
“The scheme offered the prospect for this and the architects worked it out well. They also managed to exceed their brief and more views of the Three Graces were retained than was proposed. I appreciate that the principal view from the south is obstructed, but none of these buildings were planned as a group, nor was it expected that these views would not be built across.
“We need a modern statement to showcase the aspirations of this city.
“It’s all consistent with what was proposed.”

BBC Radio Merseyside article at the time

Tony Moscardini was always a solid rock http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/10/tony-moscardini-dispells-liverpools.html and he is excluded from this MCS meeting with Unesco it seems.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/merseyside-civic-society-heritage.html

I recall meeting Trevor Skempton when he was employed by the City Council to persuade the planning commttee that One Park West the 4th place Carbuncle Cup entry for 2009 was good gor the city.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/one-park-west-voted-one-park-worst-by.html
So why is he repesenting the Merseyside Civic Society and its members views?

The World Heritage Steering Group will meet the Unesco mission here is the secret list of names of the group that steers...........what?

Ron Van Oers-How Can He Show His Face Again In Liverpool?

In November 2006 A Unesco Monitoring Mission came to Liverpool at our request. The mission of two, were Michelle Bonnette and Ron Van Oers.

I had a meeting with them for 15 minutes after a long conversation in Municipal Buildings with Florence Gersten who was wrongly excluded.
She asked me to hand them documents she had written from her vast knowledge.
Then directly after, a delegation of four from the Merseyside Civic Society led by Peter Brown, who later announced that he was a supporter of the Man Island black coffins went in.
Pat Moran was part of the delegation as was anther member who I would later find out was one of the people representing the MCS who would also be representing a owner of property that would be directly affected by the Mann Island and museum proposals.
If you recall the Liverpool Museums had to pay £750,000 for loss of (our) views to one developer that owned property at the Pier Head.
So the Itinerary stated that the City Council Limousine picked the mission up, and the council afforded them meetings in quick fire successions that were presentations and led them around like poodles.
There was a lot riding on this mission but Ron & Co let us down badly.
They said that the Mann Island proposals would not affect the Overall Universal Value of the World Heritage Site………….How wrong can they be.
We were hoping that Unesco, as a last resort would advise the council against its plans that were funded by the NWDA and sponsored by Liverpool Vision, (Joe Anderson was and is a member) who employed the deplorable October Communications, now Aurora Media to come up with a publicity drive.
Jon Egan used all his skills to slime as many articles into the paper to Larry Neild, the then City Editor who now works for Egan.
Larry Neild won an award from Downtown Liverpool In Business, and guess who does their media now.
October Communications lined up presentations with Icomos UK, the City Council then become a corporate member. Heard nothing from them this time.
Now they have asked if I can attend with Peter Brown, and Ian Wray who was a planner for NWDA….not a chance.
And to think, John Hinchliffe (world heritage waste of space) is organising it.

What a joke.
The UK Government then funded Unesco in 2007 to a tune of 16% of their budget for the year. Were they bought off?
One of the problems was that English Heritage were supporting the proposed schemes…………while Sir Neil Cossons the then Chairman of English Heritage was working for Liverpool Museums. You couldn’t make this up
So Ron you have been sent back to Liverpool on the 14th to 16th November to see what has been done at the Pier Head……….will you be big enough to say you made a mistake? Will you make a statement to say so?
How can the OUV not have been effected by building three black coffins a Terminal Ferry Carbuncle and a carbuncle Museum n the WHS.
Unesco, have a new Chairman let’s hope they are not as thick as the last one.
This time English Heritage have published an independent report into the damning effects Liverpool Waters will have on the World Heritage Site.

Lets hope that Ron Van Oers does not allow the council to blindfold him and lead him around like a shopkeepers dummy………like in 2006.

21 Madryn Street-The House That SAVE Britains Heritage, Have, Foolishly, Bought.

"They don't make them like they used to" was a saying I used to hear from workers all the time.
"Thank God I used to say some old houses are only good for the bulldozers".
It takes someone who has restored property to make a statement like that, not some middle class mummy's boy with a silver spoon hanging out of their chin.
Who think they understand architecture because they have read about it in a book, or because some dimwit who has manoeuvred themselves into a position with the local Civic Society says so.
There is an old saying "Any fool can write a book, but it takes a man to hang a door"
I prescribe to this line of thought.

This building click on the pic to enlarge 21 Madryn Street has been bought by SAVE Britains Heritage to waste our taxpayers money on fighting for its ownership so they can claim to be the saviours of society and show the city council, who are twassers, up.
So lets look at it.
It has to be the worst piece of architecture I have seen and having restored over a hundred buildings and surveyed many, many others I think I have an idea what I am talking about.
I didn't read about architecture in a book because I was born with a shovel in my mouth that someone said "there you go, there's your start in life go and dig yourself a hole".
There was no middle class upbringing for me. I just tell it straight because I can hang a door and put on a roof and I mean build one not just slate it, and plumb a house though that's only a semi skilled job.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/01/9-madryn-street-ringos-house-why-knock.html
I was there when the Toxteth Riots were on working in the area, restoring properties for poor people to live in....because we had nothing else to offer in Toxteth.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/louise-ellman-mp-dame-of-dereliction.html

This has to be the most godawful house I have ever seen it has been rebuilt with rubbish cheap brick in the 70s. It has lost all of its windows and even has a precast concrete lintel instead of its original brick arch and its front door..........it is a dog. There is no other way to describe it.

Hey but SAVE Britains Heritage have bought it......clever people those SAVE bods.

Save Us From SAVE Britains Heritage.

I attended the planning committee meeting of the 19th April and on the agenda was the demolition of phase one and two of the Welsh Streets.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/01/9-madryn-street-ringos-house-why-knock.html
I previously wrote, and there is a real reason for keeping the heart of New Heartlands, but.........
The hotly contested Welsh Streets, but by who.

I have never before seen a situation where people who live in an area are supporters, declaring they want their houses knocked down..............and it helped change my mind, enough is enough.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/01/9-madryn-street-ringos-house-why-knock.html
Merseytravel once owned Ringos House.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/05/liverpools-joe-anderson-we-will-scrap.html Joe Anderson promised to save the demolitions....but
Now it transpires that SAVE Britain’s Heritage are mischievously trying to buy, off anyone, who will sell, any of the remaining properties in the Welsh Streets.
This will cost us hundreds of thousands of pounds in legal fees in a futile and silly plan to disrupt the process, while the area is 95% empty, already cleansed, yes we know it was all wrong, but who are we to argue with people who want decent housing.
http://www.savebritainsheritage.org/
The idea is to have all the houses around them knocked down and force the council to CPO the houses that they may have bought.
http://www.savebritainsheritage.org/news/campaign.php?id=192
What is the point?
I grew up in a similar house and some of the supporters of the demolition mirrored exactly how it felt for me till we were re-housed in the 60's from what was labelled a slum.

Now, I don’t like to give in on a fight but SAVE would be better placed buggering off back to London than wasting Liverpool ratepayer’s money on a lost cause to further their own public image of being heritage fighters.

Ringos house may have been worth fighting for I thought, but not any, more.
They at SAVE cannot buy Ringos house in Madryn Street because the city council own it. There was a point but it has now gone too far. It seems some people are so empowered to have their names in the paper, that it drives them on when they should stop and common sense come into play.

If Nina Edge and others wish to fight that's up to them it seems her house is a big house for the area, but why should others not have the right to move.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/01/ringos-house-9-madryn-street-david.html
They at SAVE may have done some good heritage battles and they pride themselves on being vociferous, but on this occasion they have misplaced ideals that need to be stopped.

Peter Brown of the Merseyside Civic Society was in attendance at the planning committee and the MCS have been supportive of Nina Edge, who it was claimed by supporters of the demolition, did not fully live in Kelvin Grove. They the MCS have also assisted the misguided attempts of Elizabeth Pascoe http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/vote-for-elizebeth-pascoe-god-elp-hurst.html who cost herself a fortune to save her house. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/whatever-happened-to-merseyside-civic.html There is one thing being classed as heroic as a way to make friends and influence people but at what point do you stop being tagged along by people from London who put on the occasional wine and cheese evening here in Liverpool and then go home.
I feel sorry for anyone losing their house. Joe Anderson said he would save the demolitions but it now seems he wont

Jonathan Brown seems to be able to motivate Peter Brown, oh, and Steve Parry of Neptune Developments, I couldn’t.
When he should have been fighting against world heritage blight he was supporting its developments. I will never be able to respect him again.

Where does the point come when all those around you have decided to sell and the place is an area full of rats and blight? It seems now.

So the idea of SAVE, if they can, as their charitable status is being checked to see if they can do it, is to buy up a few houses and let everything be knocked down around them. Hey clever!

While they go home to their middle class London Mews the people they are claiming to help are living in squalor. There is a chance that the development may stall but it is too far gone now I fear.

This is a misguided campaign by the eccentrics at SAVE and they should think carefully before they proceed in cajoling vulnerable sections of society. There is one thing putting on a glossy exhibition and producing a glossy booklet costing £14 about Liverpool’s lack of care with its heritage and genuinely helping people with their plight. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/save-exhibition.html

SAVE claims to have saved the Lyceum in Bold Street many decades ago, it was Florence Gersten http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/florence-gersten-life-spent-helping.html who did all the work. This is now under threat with blight about to happen all around it.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/02/now-lyceum-of-bold-street-is-to-gets.html
Far too close to Peter De Figeurido http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html they at SAVE are now art risk of becoming labelled heritage nutters, in fact there are a few there already.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/heritage-fruitcakes-from-bonkers-ville.html read some of the coments from SAVE members here http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/heritage-fruitcakes-from-bonkers-ville_19.html
or here,
 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/heritage-fruitcakes-from-bonkers-ville_20.html
or eve here and there. Fruitcakes anonymous. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/heritage-fruitcakes-from-bonkers-ville_22.html

I do not take stating my opinion lightly in this instance despite some of their senior members being completely bonkers (see above links) and in my opinion verging on the edge of heritage madness, they have done some good work, but here they are looking like middle class twits playing heritage games that affect far too many people’s lives. Who should not be used in the arsenal of SAVE’s Heritage publicity machine.

SAVE Us from SAVE.

Liverpool Pathfinders-Left High And Dry

Yesterday I posted about how the Sunday Times journalist Olivier Shah reports on Liverpool without even visiting the city, she googled it. Though she mentioned the Liverpool Preservation Trust, that does not mean we have to have any respect for a pathetic piece of reporting entitled, Born Again Liverpool Dances to a Different Beat, and shows a picture of yesterdays man Paul McCartney, seems like the same old boring recycled shit to me.
As Correspondent points out its not only The Daily Ghost who recycle the same old nonsense.
While yesterdays front page at the Daily Ghost said how wonderful it is they are filming an advert for the Range Rover here, now it maybe is good news, but front page?

Yesterday the BBC showed a report on the disastrous Pathfinders scheme on Merseyside where now the least able in society are left high and dry by mismanagement and dare I say Elizebeth Pascoes self effacing campaign to show herself as some sort of champion for the people.
I have never subscribed to this or to all the complimentary gestures made by architectural mercenaries and bandwagon jumpers such as Trevor Skempton and the rest of them, including Jonathan Brown at the Merseyside Civic Society.
These areas need regeneration, a more careful approach was needed to care for the vulnerable section of society but work needed doing to create areas fit for living in todays age.
It was always going to be a mess with Warren"war zones" Bradley leading the way.
He drives his fire engine around Toxteth putting out fires.......with blinkers on to the plight of his fellow citizens.
While the middle class upstarts at SAVE Britain's Heritage do all they can to upset as many people as possible, and further their own publicity machine.
Click on the BBC report and SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THOSE TRAPPED IN THE QUAGMIRE OF GOVERNMENT BLUNDERING THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED BY A INEPT COUNCIL LEADER, THROW IN A FEW MIDDLE CLASS TWITS MASQUERADING AS URBAN WARRIORS AND IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A COCK UP.

Liverpool's "Dodgy Planners" and Beetham Tower.

How can the Liverpool City Council pass plans for a massive tower block in the world heritage buffer zone, on land, that the Land Registry wouldn't allow the flats contained therein in to be registered, because there is a flying freehold that should never have been considered suitable for building a tower on in the first place.
How come the city council allowed the developer Beetham to build over a highway.

Right from the onset of Liverpool's new found wealth, well, the ponsi scheme created by the council and its Liverpool Vision cling-ons funded by the North "Vested Interest" Development Agency, Mike Storey, now Lord Storey, was there giving our land away. Beetham Plaza which was Wilberforce House, was gifted to Beetham.
This plot was originally sold to Betham as a area for landscaping for their original boring tower.
The Fib-Dems even scrapped the City Councils Tall Building Policy to accommodate them and Grosvenor. I GAVE A COMMENT TO THE DAILY POST ON HOW OUTRAGOUS IT WAS THAT MIKE STOREY AND WARREN BRADLEY COULD DECIDE THIS.
What about the WHS buffer zone.

So given the garden adjacent his first erection, for a peppercorn, what does Hugh Frost, a client of mine who seemed, like a gentleman when he came in my shop, do.
Bungs in a planning application for a 37 storey tower on a plot the size of a postage stamp and Liverpool's Dodgy Planners say, Yes that will do nicely.
Now I am not saying there is any corruption going on, or has gone on, well not in public anyway, but it just goes to show the complete lack of stringency that should, have been adhered to, that seems to have been relaxed to accommodate a developer in this case.

Is there corruption in the City Council and its planning department?
That is a question I was asked three times this week.
I refused to answer while I am building up a file, that is in depth, you see unless you keep your eye on the ball what goes past you with the slight of hand of a magician is bewildering.

And Beetham must have thought they had pulled a rabbit out of the hat when the, apparent, oversight of being given some land for, it was reported £163,000 turned int the price someone would pay for a broom cupboard in the flats. They even said Micheal Owen had taken a penthouse.well Larry Neild said so as city editor, creating this illusion of respectability and desire around it. It was later raided by the drug squad.

Charles Hubbard the vice chair at the time of the Merseyside Civic Society, whose son worked for Beetham handled the negotiations to save two listed cottaged in the shadow and on the grounds of the then proposed tower.........clever.
If there has ever been a waste of space, its the MCS.

If I recall Doreen Jones Liverpool's own Dame of Architectural Disaster, and her brief (for decades) Rex Makin walked out of a St Georges Hall Trustees meeting because Beetham had given £200,000 to the fund to restore the hall........how strange.

Then it all went wrong for Hughie and (estranged) Son.
Faced with not being able to register the properties he couldn't sell them on and his assetts sat losing money, because Beethams gearing at the bank was stacked the wrong side.
Now put the tower has now gone into administration and we the public are owed £750,000 by Beetham or one of its offsetts.

Last week it was reported that;

LIVERPOOL council officials are set for urgent talks with the administrators of the city’s West Tower over £750,000 it was due to be paid for “fresh air”.
In 2008 Mapfield Properties agreed to buy a patch of land and airspace beneath the 40-storey tower from the council.
Mapfield had been unable to sell luxury apartments in the skyscraper after the Land Registry refused to register potential sales because part of the building overhangs 36 square meter of public highway.
Mapfield – part of the wider Beetham family of companies – decided to buy the land in Brook Street to resolve the issue.
But the deal was never completed and the council has not received any money.
Now Mapfield has gone into administration the council faces a new round of negotiations with administrators Grant Thornton.
A council spokesman said: “We haven’t received the money from Mapfield.
“We have been negotiating with them. We were attempting to get a deal. But Mapfield has gone into administration.
“We are meeting the administrators early this week.”
Beetham originally bought the land on which the West Tower stands for just £163,000 in 2003 from Liverpool City Council. The deal led to an outcry over whether the council had got the best price for the land.

I had predicted this would happen some time ago. Trying for towers and generally building them as in Manchester with its massive Walkie Talkie whistling tower..I......ts behind you.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/bye-bye-beetham.html
Southwark council the subject of a Beetham planning application issued a statement  in March 2009.
It said;"At Southwark Council, we give a great deal of thought to the benefits very tall buildings actually bring to their local area. As a council with a large landholding, we understand the advantages of tall buildings in the right communities, but we will not allow something that gives Carte blanche to developers to build very tall buildings where they are not appropriate."

Then it seemed they had got out of the mess.

I wrote over a year ago about a strange comment Nigel Lee Liverpools Chief Planning disaster made, just how well did they know each other and why were they allowed to get away with this.

At a recent Architects Journal sponsored conference at Liverpools Crown Plaza hotel chaired by the obnoxious Paul Finch who was the editor of the Architectural Review and has far too much say for such a bad mouth attitude.
Nigel Lee Liverpool's modern day answer to the Luftwaffe speaking during a power-point presentation showing the mess his troops have deployed said and I quote
"Beetham have the biggest tower in Liverpool at 37 storeys high they also have a massive tower in Manchester and are planning one in London...the guys got a problem with erections, and all this because he has a little willy"
Not sure how he knows but this was in front of a packed room full of £435 fee paying delegates from all over the country.
I looked round as the room cringed. Can he really get away with this.

What about Liverpool Vision, or lack of its, roll in all this that Joe Anderson was on the board of at the time.
Oh and all this happened right next to the Daily Post and Echos headquarters....didn't anyone there look out the window.

AND SHOULDNT THERE BE A FULL INVESTIGATION INTO THIS TAWDRY AFFAIR.

Liverpool Waters-Public Inquiry Is Called For.

In the light of Joe Andersons recent outburst supporting Peel Holdings, Liverpool Waters. We feel it is time to call for a Call-in and a public inquiry.
Joe Anderson cannot, in my opinion be trusted with Liverpools Historic fabric. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/11/joe-anderson-spiving-for-peel-holdings.html
He was also part of the Cabal that has done some damage being part of Liverpool Vision, The Culture Company etc, etc.  http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/11/03/liverpool-council-leader-joe-anderson-hits-out-at-english-heritage-for-blocking-city-development-92534-27590506/

We invite anyone who has a concern to join us in asking for a public inquiry, write to the address below.
I am informed that Florence Gersten of Save Our City will do so today.
Caity Marsh and Peter Marsden of the DCMS can also be contacted as they are to report to UNESCO.
The World Heritage Steering group have decided at a secret meeting that they need the help of the Merseyside Civic Society to collaborate on this scheme, to make it easier for them to pass it. I understand despite refusing before when requested Peel may now give a presentation to the MCS where they will discuss the matter. (The whole theree of them). The World Heritage Steering group led by John "World Heritage waste of space" Hinchliffe has now decided they need them for the same Mann Island trick. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/merseyside-civic-society-heritage.html

“Called-in” Applications

The discretionary power to call in an application before it is formally determined by the Local Planning Authority is given by Section 77 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

The criteria used at present were set out in a 1999 Commons answer in which it was stated that the Government would only intervene in council’s jurisdiction if the planning issues were of more than local importance.

The criteria given at the time were that one of the following would have to be in evidence.
· Conflict with national policies over important matters.
· Significant affects beyond the locality.
· Substantial regional or national controversy.
· Major architectural and urban design issues.
· Involvement with the interests of national security or of foreign governments.
The normal procedure is put the case in writing to the Planning Director at the Government Office for the region. Speed is of the essence since the “call-in” must be before the local planning authority determines the application.

Peel Holdings have submitted plans to Liverpool City Council for a huge development called Liverpool Waters.
Liverpool as some other parts of the country such as the Tower of London, Edinburgh and Bath, has been under huge pressure of recent dates and I am afraid to say a binge build mentality has taken over here in my home city.
I have kept the Caity Marsh and Peter Marsden of the DCMS informed.
UNESCO is fully aware of this proposed development, which is in the Liverpool Mercantile and Maritime City World Heritage Group.
In my opinion the current council leader Mr Joe Anderson does not want any further involvement from English Heritage who are advising that the scale and massing of the development that can harm the World Heritage Site.
He has stated this publicly.
In opposition he was a member of Liverpool Vision and several agencies, who in my opinion have made catastrophic mistakes that we called for public inquiries on.
Let me please explain the way it has worked in the past.
We write to the Secretary of State or in fact the Prime Minister, they then put it in the hands of the Regional Development Agency whose Chairman and members are very likely to be on the board of the developers, be they, public or private bodies and the request for public consultation is then suppressed by the GONW.
This approach has put Liverpool under a microscope with UNESCO.
This development meets all the criteria for A Public Inquiry perhaps you may be so kind as to take this into consideration and call in this development.

RIBA To Send Its Drawings Collection to Liverpool.

More pathetic LIVERPOOL Daily Post reporting. This time from the council lap-dog Mark Wadding"Padding"ton.
The spoon feeding of the public is culpable. This time its more uneducated garbage from a local paper trying, but failing miserably to understand the scope of the disaster they have lauded on behalf of the council and the North "Vested Interest" Development Agency. Burying their heads in the sand.
Unable to see or comprehend World Heritage Disaster that is partly their fault for spinning everything.

The article may be well meaning, but is so full of "ifs and maybes" it should never have been allowed to go to print.
We have heard all this garbage before, they even roll out the Merseyside Civic Society calling it the historic Merseyside Civic Society. God 'elp us.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/whatever-happened-to-merseyside-civic.html
I call them heritage collaborators, responsible for turning a blind eye on purpose.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/merseyside-civic-society-heritage.html
It is said the RIBA collection "could" be placed in a new premises located on the waterfront, close to the Albert Dock. The Daily Ghost shows a 15 year old picture of the Albert Dock before it was turned into World Heritage S*ite.
  http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/liverpool-wins-carbuncle-cup.html

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/mann-island-damage-has-been-well-and.html

Read the previous RIBA have a rep who is no more than a vandal disfiguring the WHS, and being allowed to.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/11/08/royal-institute-for-british-architects-may-have-northern-headquarters-in-liverpool-say-council-92534-27618566/
Jonothan  Brown comments, he will try hard, but it may be that he likes the sound of his own name in the papers and is the only one who is running around as part of an aimless, and bleedin' hopeless, bunch of heritage no-marks who have stood by and watched while the waterfront has been decimated by bad design. Now they want to bring a load of architects here to see the damage. http://www.sevenstreets.com/city-living/feature-city-living/total-eclipse-of-the-heart-mann-island/
Now forgive me for being cynical, but could it be "proposed" for one of the Black Coffins on Mann Island as the Open Eye Gallery look as if they wont be joining the world heritage disaster party.
Has Matt Brooks been trying to pull a few strings.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/ldpbusiness/business-local/2009/07/02/architect-s-riba-role-to-promote-design-excellence-92534-24053919/

It was said Mr Brook, who opened Broadway Malyan’s Liverpool office in 2007, will serve as a North West representative on the Royal Institute of British Architects’ National Council.

It even takes the Daily Ghost opinion. The very same opinion that said Alsops Glass Pie in the sky was to be brilliant for Liverpool.
The well meaning idiot who wrote the Comment and Analysis in the Daily Ghost says Every effort must be made to convince RIBA that Liverpool is not only a spiritual home for architectural excellence, but a practical, vibrant and cost effective base. After all Liverpool's historic waterfront can offer what every desirable building requires-location, location, location.
AND THEN LOOK AT THE PICTURE OF WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.
And a bunch of brainless numb skulls who report on any bit of council rubbish, with a positive spin, who are oblivious to architecture, and have allowed the waterfront to be carbuncled while Blind Bill Gleeson tells us all how good it all is.
With Mark Thomas, the Daily Ghost editors favourite building the 2009 Carbuncle cup winning Terminal Ferry Building, it really is the blind leading the dumb and blind.

The reality is we are yet to be a laughing stock for the mess created on Liverpool's Waterfront and The local press just put a blind face on it all.
If we all turn a blind eye maybe the architectural profession wont notice Mark.

Liverpool's World Heritage Steering Group-The Secret Group-The List of Names.

Yes, I can hear you thinking what is a world heritage steering group. Well here is a list of the names.........round up all the usual suspects. Graham Ives, Louise Obrien, daughter of Fred and Nigel Lee. Graham Boxer and Keith Blundell, no surprises there all the people ever willing to sell out the world heritage site, or turn a blind eye. John Belchem is a surprise,
Wayne Colquhoun was recently interviewed by Winifred Robinson for a Radio 4 programme about Liverpool's new eyesore museum and he was waxing on about the history of the port and all that stuff. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/03/museum-of-liverpool-radio-4-take.html
Sarah Jane Farr was at the Merseyside civic Society meeting. She was one of the heritage collaborators advocating the new museum. She should know better.
 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/merseyside-civic-society-heritage.html
Hinchliffe the World Heritage waste of time http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/02/john-hinchliffe-liverpools-world.html  who has the backbone of a jelly fish as far as the WHS is concerned was running a lot of the proceedings and directed by Ian Wray of the NWDA.
We dont have a chance when these secret organisations meet behind closed doors and don't make themselves known.
So here they are the conspirators to world heritage disasters, turning a blind eye, selling their souls really, probably to the highest bidder, jobs for the boys, or girls.
What is most alarming is David "Fuzzy Felt" Fleming who destroyed Manchester Docks (while Sara Jane Farr recorded the old shoes and bottles found there) is on the committee.
How can you let a man who has no concept of World Heritage principles who is a  marauder of the Liverpool Museums treasure chest to better his career, http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/sharon-granville-of-liverpool-museumsis.html who has done so much damage near a steering group. It just shows the type of steering they have in mind.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/07/liverpool-waters-english-heritage-hold.html

All we need now is Henry Owen-John and Joe Back'Anderson and they can do what they like.
They don't have a single person who we would trust there.

Update 30.9,2021

Liverpool has now lost its World Heritage Site Status.
Dont say we did not warn you.
How can these people sleep at night.

Whatever Happened To The Merseyside Civic Society?.

When interviewed by Radio Merseyside's daytime anchor-man the unflappable Roger Philips about the MCS awards that have been brought back by.......errrr popular demand, just before Peter Brown the current Chairman leaves for a year in China.

Peter was asked  "Peter Whatever Happened To The Merseyside Civic Society?"

Says it all really. Is this what you call being Rogered?

The Merseyside Civic Society-Heritage Collaborators.

The LPT was formed by Professor Quentin Hughes and myself after long deep conversations into the impending gloom that was to befall the WHS. Quentin who wrote Seaport and LIVERPOOL City of Architecture was more than qualified to meet with the UNESCO officials on their visit to decide whether to award World Heritage Site Status to Liverpool in 2004. He had asked me, as their Chairman to join the Merseyside Civic Society but I had refused. I was asked to give a talk to the MCS council in February 06 after kicking up a fuss about the then proposed museum in the local and national press. Even the Times were writing about it. And more was to come. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/07/mann-island-funds-new-museum-its-fact.html  The lottery funding would be refused for the interior fit –out, (which they have now spent) because as all there was to look at for the fit out was some sketches on the back of a ciggy packet.

http://www.liv.ac.uk/mcs/mcshom.html  I did my talk in the offices of Edmund Kirkby here in India Buildings who gave the offices for free. Edmund Kirkby are surveyors with lots of clients and conflicts of interests in the city but I presume it was with good intentions that they laid on the tea and coffee. It was a good turn out I was told, 15 or 20 of them. I thought to myself there was a definite pull in the room as I tried to persuade them that the museum disaster was funded by the then proposed Three Grotesques at Mann Island. http://www.bbc.co.uk/liverpool/content/articles/2006/03/14/capcult_regen_mann_island_feature.shtml  Quentin had not long passed away and the current Chairman was and still is Dr Peter Brown was even arguing against me. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2009/06/24/jury-still-out-on-mann-island-blocks-92534-23960446/  He would later show his true colours. One of the members was an archaeologist working for the museums http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/11/loyd-grossman-lectures-us-on-heritage.html  who would go on later to do the dig on Manchester Docks.
There was a trustee of NML present if I am not mistaken was the Earl of Derby, and the vice chair of MCS was also the chairman of the Friends of Liverpool Museums. Andrew Pearce http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/11/museum-of-liverpool-sad-rip-off-of.html  was a worry constantly going on about the museum arranging wine and cheese presentations on it, promoting it. He was commended by David “Fuzzy Felt” Fleming in a yearly review. He and the friends were later binned by him as being an extremists. With a few stalwarts in the room such as Pat Moran who is always honest if not a little loud and Tony Moscardini, I did the best to explain what World Heritage meant as quite a few of them, who had bothered to turn up seemed to be lacking in what it meant to have such an accolade. I gave all my best in a frantic exchange at times, thought I had pulled some in. Dr Knobolis, who teaches at Liverpool Uni. (well some Greek sounding name) Who I later found is a property owner of two apartments in the “Plassy Flats” the saddest block of flats at Kings Dock, asked if I would like to become a council member. I was cheered and seconded in, and there began part of the most frustrating relationship I have ever had.
I was keen; I even gave up my busy lunchtime for meetings. At great financial cost. I would watch as the most foolish things were discussed while world heritage disaster had started. Occasionally people such as Hilary Burridge http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/well-its-hahnerman-house-again.html  who I would find out has quite close connections to her low-ness the Dame of Dereliction Louise Ellman. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/search/label/Louise%20Ellman  Burridge would turn the meeting into a Tesco bash….a nimby. Tony Moscardini always seemed to get it spot on. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/mann-island-damage-has-been-well-and.html  Patrick Moran used to get annoyed, he stormed out once in anger, only to have to come back 10 minutes later because he had forgotten his shopping. A Grosvenor mole Trevor Skempton turned up at the planning meeting for One Park Worst on behalf of Grosvenor. Now call me old fashioned but is this the reason he was there. He would want to talk and he would spend a lot of time trying to discuss how great Grosvenor were. Even when Private Eyes, Piloti give it a bashing, he was there to defend it even writing in to BD. Writing in about the LPT’s warnings proclaiming the need to blend the old with the new…Yeah, as if we don’t know this. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/building-designs-carbuncle-cup.html   The MCS even put it on the website. A delegation including Peter Brown, Charles Hubbard of Edmund Kirby were allowed 10 minutes with the Unesco mission whitewash in October 06 as I had persuaded some to get on board, well those that turned up, some meetings had as little as three people, its hardly a gathering. One MCS council member said to me he couldn’t argue with the planners because he has to work with them.
Its called Lying Down to be Counted.
Peter Brown who teaches at a Liverpool University stitched us up with a consultaion evening there presented by Neptune Developments. One of Neptune’s whose directors trained at the Liverpool Uni and so did the architect of disaster Matt Brookes. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/mann-island-bail-out.html Neptune donated the model to the University. Oh and Brian “Mad Hatter” Hatton an educated idiot who couldn’t put a shelf up who also teaches there lined us up on the developers behalf. He would later edit an Architectural Review Jan 08 entitled Liverpool Work in progress and he never upset a developer or architect once. http://info.arplus.com/supplements/liverpool%20work%20in%20progress Remember how it was all going to be Iconic. Pulling them all in to help the decimation of WHS, in fact promoting it. It’s funny reading that now. Anyhow it wasn’t long I was thinking this Brigade are like the Vichy Government, Collaborators with the establishment who are in fact the enemy, on the wrong track, they represent vested interests.
I resigned and renamed them the Merseyside Inert Society they are worse than the developers in my opinion. Only, in my opinion, they are not that inert when they are helping their friends. They all turned up for the wine and cheese evenings that were frequently arranged as smoothers. They actively tried to get one laid on from Peel Holdings who refused. Peter Brown became entertainments organiser...yes. Gave an evening for Henry Owen John to give a talk who was lambasted by some of the more brave. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/henry-owen-john-english-heretic.html  Peter Brown was mates with John Hinchliffe. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/02/john-hinchliffe-liverpools-world.html  I said to him stop writing letters Dear John these people are getting away with it and you are letting them. Or Dear Nigel to Nigel Lee the Chief Planning disaster.
Now I am not saying anything illegal has taken place, other than. They have been a shadow of themselves, they were indeed Civic under Quentin’s chairmanship.
They had a civic duty.
There is an old saying for evil to succeed it takes good men to do nothing the Merseyside Civic Society, what a waste of a good name.
I would prefer to be in the resistance than side with the collaborators, I hope they can all sleep at night.

Heritage Fruitcakes-From Bonkers Ville.

I have met some of the most highly intelligent people that I respect and admire, in Heritage circles, I have trodden, if there is such a thing. People locally, like Florence Gersten and colleagues of mine at the LPT whose determination to see out a cause should be rewarded, but are not, as they put their time in for free. Instead they stand up to be counted while others do nothing. People with a richness of character to see through the press pap and don’t need to be part of a backslappers anonymous are the people who I admire. People who wont be swayed. Then there are those who are a Nemesis of themselves who have nothing better to do and take any argument to a new level……….downwards into a intellectual twaffle that just allows the developers and the councils, wherever they be, to do exactly what they want, while the twaffs are holding another wine and cheese evening, twaffling on, making friends with which to future twaffle, because they have a lonely existence……yes you know who you are. Its like they need acceptance and the heritage brigade are a well mannered lot and dont often argue. It does not mean that these exhibitions to a city, and involvement highlighting problems are not welcome, but with any battle it is the locals know the lay of the land. But, others see those arguments as publicity and a need to be accepted by people, so they join groups and pay subscriptions and turn up at places and….twaffle. These people are no use to us at the LPT. Colleagues of mine have resigned or want nothing to do with do-gooders who do nothing, yes you know who you are from groups like the Merseyside Civic Society. Those that run so called heritage forums talk about cigarette stumps outside the Port of Liverpool Buildings being unsightly and don’t mention world heritage blight 10 yards away…blind to facts…..those that should know better.

At a Heritage wine and cheese evening I met someone called Evelyn Cook “I am Byword” she said “In BD”. Oh all right if you like I thought. She then rattled on as to what she wasn’t happy about slagged off Liverpool’s blight, all those at SAVE http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/save-exhibition.html  who did the exhibition and how she does this and that and she runs the Nemesis Republic blog which I added to ours. But no more, After 450 e-mails of which 430 are just plain bonkers-Ville I have removed any involvement from this silly woman. But we just can’t take any more of this twaffle. It seems anyone these days can set up a pseudonym and then rattle off antagonistic comments http://www.bdonline.co.uk/story.asp?sectioncode=437&storycode=3161475  which defeats their own argument. Some people want to be heritage groupies and get annoyed when they don’t get accepted, defending those that do the damage http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/11/loyd-grossman-lectures-us-on-heritage.html  Those, well her, at the Nemesis Banana republic should be ashamed of themselves for having nothing else to do than try to undermine work done by us. We offer no explanations to who we are the words LIVERPOOL PRESERVATION TRUST mean one thing …………..You can trust us. We will tell the truth and wont be swayed by anyone, and the type of friends and colleagues who twaffle about nothing while creeping into the next wine and cheese evening to make themselves feel important can stuff off.
I did radio 4 interviews with Nick Ravenscroft about Liverpool’s World Heritage Site or Blight, as we shall now call it. All the bods were rolled out Jim Gill from Liverpool Vision http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/search/label/Liverpool%20Vision  and they all tried to bemoan us at LPT as opposition to their hairbrained schemes.
It was 20 minutes later that I received e-mail from the then President of the Royal Institute of British Architects, RIBA, it said.

“Wayne I can see what they try to do and always remember even in a minority of one, the truth is still the truth”.
I wont forget his support but will never pander to liars who ignore world heritage s*ite so they can stay in with their mates. I know who my colleagues are, those who I can trust, because they trust themselves, do you?

Another Carbuncle Planned. This Time Its 54 Storeys High.

Liverpool is to get another skyscraper it is reported today in the Liverpool Ghost (will someone just put the old dog down) ……..the property developer’s friendly Advert-oral http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/02/08/age-of-the-skyscraper-returns-to-liverpool-with-130m-plan-92534-25784626/

Wouldn’t you think they would be a little cautious proclaiming another new skyscraper this time a 54 storey stretched shoebox in the sky.... on a site of an old pub that only had enough room for a couple of billiard tables. The old King Edward site. This is the World Heritage Site Buffer Zone. http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/daily-news/tallest-tower-in-liverpool-redesigned-again/5213922.article

But both the Government’s architecture watchdog CABE and neighbouring landowner Peel objected. The application was withdrawn and never went to planning committee. http://www.cabe.org.uk/design-review/king-edward-street read the full review.
Now the King Edward consortium is optimistic of getting widespread approval.
They have been in prolonged talks with Liverpool Vision and Liverpool City Council over how the tower will fit into the landscape and work with future projects like Peel’s Liverpool Waters.
Last week, CABE was shown the revised plans and is expected to publish its official response in the coming weeks.
Its reaction to the first designs was damning and it urged the council to throw them out.
It said while it agreed with the principle of putting a tall building on the run-down site, the old plans had “confused architectural expression” and “low ambitions for sustainability”.
Well it is strange that Peel object as their plans to cancel the Panamax Terminal and concentrate on building blocks of flats that nobody wants to live in is exactly the same lack of common sense that we see here. Where are all the people coming from to fill them?
Architects Leach Rhodes Walker, who were also behind Liverpool’s Malmaison hotel, are being asked to include a high-level restaurant with a public viewing deck.
Jonothan Brown a council member of the Merseyside Civic Society is working for town planners doing landscaping….so there will be no objections from them.

North West Development Agency-Shysters-R-Us

A LAND deal that saw a publicly-owned site sold for a quarter of its real value will be investigated by independent auditors. Ben Schofield writes in todays Daily Ghost. Though he is only young and has not been around for a while, this is several years after the event, this is why we call the local papers Trinity "Smoking" Mirror Group. Why did they not investigate what we all knew. I told them about this and they chose not to print it.

He continues, The North West Development Agency asked Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) to investigate the purchase and re-sale of its Mann Island site after the Daily Post revealed it was sold for £3.5m even though its value is nearer £15m.
The waterfront site, in the shadow of the city’s historic Three Graces, is now being developed by Countryside Neptune, which bought the plot in 2007. NWDA had paid £9.25m for the site just six years before. Its audit committee voted unanimously to ask PWC to investigate the deal.
North West MEP Paul Nuttall has also asked the National Audit Office to look into the deal.
NWDA chief executive Mr Steven Broomhead said: “Given what’s been said in the public domain, I think it’s important that I reassure myself with an independent review carried out by PWC.”
An expert arbitrator valued the site at between £15m and £16m while settling a dispute between the NWDA and the land’s former owners last year.
Three blocks are being built on there – two residential and one containing offices. There will also be restaurants and shops, as well as a Winter Garden.
Neptune managing director Steve Parry defended the deal and also revealed a clause in the developers’ contact with NWDA means if the scheme earns high profits, some will be shared with the tax payer-funded quango.Mr Parry said:“A very complex brief was developed for the site to ensure buildings of the highest quality that would not jeopardise Liverpool’s newly-acquired World Heritage Status. This significantly reduced the value of the site.” http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/01/25/mann-island-land-deal-to-be-investigated-92534-25676075/

I wrote to Stephen Broadbent of the NWDA in 2006 and asked for more information regarding this land deal and was told in writing it was covered by commercial confidentiality. However during a Civic Society special meeting which was stitched up by Peter Brown the Chairman and Brian"Mad Hatter" Hatton Neptune said "We will make this happen because the price we paid for the land means we cant go wrong. NWDA-Shysters-R-Us. We have all paid for the WHS to be destroyed.
The PR agents for the NWDA and Neptune oh and Liverpool Vision were October Communications now Aurora PR based in Hanover Chambers, Hanover Street and the person at the Daily Ghost who I told this was the then City Editor of the Daily Ghost Larry Nield the Union rep. He now works for the PR company that would sell its grandmother for money and have sold our WHS right down the river.

Mann Island-More Public Funds to Destroy World Heritage.

THE NWDA was told to pay a Liverpool car dealership £1m after a dispute over the sale of the Mann Island site on the city’s waterfront.

Valuation experts ruled between the agency and Robert Smith Group, which ran a Road Range car dealership selling Mercedes-Benzes and Porsches from Mann Island.
The NWDA bought the Robert Smith Group’s 4.25-acre site on the waterfront for £9.25m in 2001. This may have been before the boom years but it was still cheap.
The land was originally intended to be the home of the city’s pathetic "glass pie in the sky" The Fourth Grace, which was scrapped in 2004.
The site was then sold to Neptune Developments and Countryside, the preferred developer for the Fourth Grace, for less than it had initially paid after Neptune threatened to sue because of all the speculative work they had done....or so they said..
In 2005, the Agency agreed to deduct £1.5m from the purchase of the land, and paid another £1.4m.

Not http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/07/mann-island-funds-new-museum-its-fact.html only was the funding for the Three Black Slugs on Mann Island public it was played out right in front of our eyes. The gave the land away for nothing and now its worth hundreds of millions. There should be European laws against this use of objective one funding to build carbuncles on the WHS.
They also funded the new museum with the funds from the sale of this land to Neptune for a pittance. Neptune Directors admitted such in a Merseyside Civic Society presntation which was stitched up by the Chairman in order to smooth the plans through on Halloween. The misguided Brian "Mad Hatter" Hatton was friends of Neptune and offered support at the meeting at one time saying the Pump House should be knocked down. So now in front of them all WHS disaster unfolds.

Steve Broomstick from the NWDA said recently "It is also a big success story for the city, with a high-quality residential and office development on site, and progressing at a time when many other projects across the UK are stalling, and the Agency is pleased to have played an important role in promoting the delivery of this important regeneration initiative.” This bloke really is a dimwit who has allowed a bunch of "cosy" developers to make a packet out of destroying world heritage with our money..public funds.

Whats the Time-Liverpool World Heritage Vandalism O'clock

I used to be so proud of our waterfront. I used to say to people "Do you know what the biggest clock face in the country is". "Big Ben" they would reply "No the Liver Buildings". Not any more. The reason that a clock was put on the South elevation was so you could see it, so you would be able to tell the time. So that the mighty image of a cultural icon, the Liver Bird could be seen they put two of them on the top of the Building. Hey but in a city using culture as a gimmick where the editors of the local press promote penguins http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2009/07/07/first-photos-of-the-colony-of-go-penguins-which-will-visit-liverpool-this-winter-92534-24090174/ what would you expect. In order to promote culture you have to be a little more educated in the arts and architecture than some who are running the city appear to be. Click on the pictures of the unfolding saga of the Three Black Slugs emerging on Mann Island that funds the new museum that destroyed Manchester Docks, http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/manchester-docks-obliterated.html   and you will agree, unless you have perpetrated the damage that it is world heritage vandalism. The third and final monster has suprised even me. I thought it was going to be bad, but not quite that bad.Carbuncles-R-Us. Perhaps with the recent pressure the local press has had Larry Bartlett wheels out Peter Brown http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2009/11/05/make-renshaw-street-area-special-liverpool-urged-92534-25095646/ of the MCS in conjunction with Guy Butler from Grosvenor-pool telling us how Renshaw Street needs saving http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/grosvenor-pool-new-name-for-liverpool.html now that all the footfall is moved and Grosvenor are pulling the strings making sure there is no competion. Dr Peter Brown from the largely redundant Merseyside Civic Society leads the charge. But wasnt it he who said Liverpool was all the better for having the three grotesques at Mann Island.

Did Matt Brookes the architect of Broadway Malyan building the Three Black Slugs study at the University that he teaches, Civic Design......Unsuccessfully?

St James Church-Liverpool’s Heritage at Risk No 4

This Church on the corner of Upper/Lower Parliament St and Park Lane may be the earliest remaining cast iron structure in Britain. Garade II*
This is the Church that had a giant neon Rabitt bolted to it without planning permission despite being in peril.
http://www.englishheritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/190609north_west_2009_har_register.pdf
PAGE 64 FOR LIVERPOOL
It is not a beautiful or monumental structure described by Picton as 'a plain brick building'. But this is none the less an historical architectural and engineering monument, of the greatest importance.

It is now owned by the Churches Conservation trust who, along with English Heretics http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/english-heretics.html  and the local Church elders are making, fools of themselves with plans to dig up 7000 bodies and build a block of flats on the graveyard……Poltergeist.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/mad-hatters-tea-party-at-st-james.html
It is Norman in character with its small semicircular headed windows. Its architect was Cuthbert Brisbane who was working on land presented by Lord Sefton for a sum of £3000 raised by 27 shareholders prior to its construction. It was built in 1774-5.
Wrought iron and cast iron were to revolutionise church design and architecture in general in the 19th century. Here we see the precursor to the Albert Dock with its vaulted and iron columned spans and it also led to the more ordinary. Such as, Coleman’s Fireproof Repository, just up Park Lane. Cast Iron columns, the type we see in this Church are quatrefoil clustered, would make it able to build vast open spaces at minimum cost. Making it a valuable style of construction for Ecclesiastical designs.

There was an earlier church with pre-cast columns the Church of St Anne, in St Anne’s Street which was built in 1772. This has now been demolished.
This is on English Heretics National at Risk register and has been for a long time.

Bishop James Jones who supports the current scheme to smack a load of piles through the skulls and bones of the dead bodies in the graveyard, unmarked, as all the head stones have been removed should be ashamed of himself. This Church is more at risk from the people who should be looking after it than the elements. How sad. But how terrible would it be if it was vandalised or set on fire the same as was done St Andrews Church on Rodney Street. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/10/st-andrews-church-rodney-st-liverpools.html

£950,000,000 of European Objective One Money Liverpool has lapped up, by the fat cats, and you cant look after our heritage. Mr Bradley Fireman and Council leader, whose watch could make a visit with his appliance any day to put out a fire should take an interest. In Toxteth where his watch is, so much wasted opportunity still beckons decades after the Toxteth riots.

This once again is in the constituency of her shyness the “Dame of Dereliction” Louise Ellman, who is oblivious to neglect it seems to me.
Quentin Hughes was a Chairman of the then, now largely redundant Merseyside Civic Society and was instrumental in having the Churches Conservation Trust take it on.
Quentin in his book LIVERPOOL City of Architecture states “The Church was declared redundant and was supposed to be cared for against the ravages of vandals by The Churches Conservation Trust. How wonderful it would be if it could be converted into a museum of iron architecture in whose development Liverpool has played such a significant part. However it now looks as though the trust is abrogating its responsibility, disliking, the task of caring for city centre Churches". That was almost a decade ago.
Just who can you trust?
