Catherine Jones-Shoddy Journalism At The Liverpool Echo.

Another Advertorial from Trinity "Smoking" Mirror on Merseyside.
This time disguised as a article.
Lets explore. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink-news/keiths-wine-bar-gets-first-11884859
A wine bar in Lark Lane is.........being painted.
The world heritage site status is about to be removed and we have to put up with this sort of trash journalism that is not enough merit to be mentioned in the Merseymart, that The Liverpool Echo also owns.
Catherine you should be ashamed of yourself.
'Can't wait to see the shiny new Keith's'.
You have brought the Liverpool Echo reporting (sic) down to a new low.
Alastair Machray who has sacked more than half the staff and sent the printing press to Oldham, has obviously had to edit this trash. But he is a large part of the problem with little or no respect.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/alastair-machray-apologises-but-its-too.html

Go and hang your head in shame Catherine.......... while you are having a free lunch at Keith's Wine Bar in Lark Lane.
This is the latest advertorial done by a whole series of moonlighters pretending to be writing news.
Yet the Liverpool Echo are cheeky enough to try to dupe the people who read it by doing an advertorial about Catherine Jones doing an Advertorial.
You couldn't make this up.......unless you worked for the Echo that is.

The Oldham Echo-Alastair Machray Has The Cheek To Ask Whats Wrong With The Echo. #TellAli his paper is corrupt.

No wonder the news is always late here is a picture of the Echo Delivery Barge winding its way down The Manchester Ship Canal from its printing press in Oldham.
Now the Editor In Chief, of Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors, Alastair Machray realising that the Echo is now a dead man walking, (we warned them of this when the Daily Post went downhill).
He then has the cheek to ask whats wrong with the paper telling the public he is going to listen to the comments.
Don't believe a word of what this man says. He and his cronies deserve the fate that awaits them. Machray has brought this once trusted institution to its knees to a place where it has become a byword for PR trash and news put together from the Mayor Joe Andersons PR website.
We have been warning them for years and now they say they will listen. Don't believe a word #TellAli says the paper will not change the only reason they are trying to kick up a PR frenzy is to sell papers.
So if you want to buy a paper that helps the Manchester economy then go ahead.
Here's a better one#TellAli to Resign and we will all be better off.

Alastair Machray Apologises-But Its Too Little Too Late

So how come the editor of Trinity Mirror Group here on Merseyside was able to get away with this?

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/the-liverpool-echo-sinks-to-all-time.html

He makes a fool out of the city by throwing a headline together, that is in such bad taste that the Admiralty were made aware of it.
Burgers and Ships, it read, at the start of the Battle of the Atlantic commemorations, or as the silly paper displayed more than once, Battle of the Atlantic celebrations.

The staff there at Old Hall Street have let him get out of control by not checking the man, by allowing him to subject the papers representations, and by doing so, theirs.
By giving out freebies from one of his mates, probably, at the Golf Club and chumming it along in a headline Machray has become a fool in the eyes of his journalists, some of who do work hard while others act as Frank McKenna's PR.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/frank-mckenna-is-alastair-machray-his.html

But not one of his scared little men challenged him; nobody will dare stand up to him.
Would they be Bevan Boys in times of war?.
It is no wonder the papers have lost circulation when the editor cannot be trusted.

A free burger from Iceland and his little bit of fun, by the man with the big title of, Editor in Chief, made all those news poodles look even more stupid than they already often do. With their ragged edge reporting direct from the council website and the numerous PR firms with ex Daily Post and Echo employees spinning rubbish, out of control.
You should be ashamed of yourselves, really you should. There was time that your employees were respected, now you cant be trusted. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/boycott-liverpool-echo-you-know-it.html
Why nobody challenged him, is why he gets away with taking the paper down to such a low level, as low as, The Sun.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/should-alastair-machray-be-sacked-from.html

Members of the local Naval representation were shocked and horrified we were told, they felt let down and humiliated
Those that lie on the bottom of the sea that lost their lives tossed and turned for sure when, in our opinion, the ignorant man declared it to be a little bit of fun.
It is hard to put into words how small a man is, when he does not even realise his mistakes, when he is representing a city, that lost a generation, that fought for the undignified mans freedom of expression.

The press complaints commission, a waste of time, said they couldn’t investigate, what, they, called, bad taste.

So a front cover of humiliation proportions and Machray pints a one-inch square as an apology buried at the foot of the page so no one will notice.

How does he think he can get away with this?

The Liverpool Echo Sinks To An All Time Low-A Free Burger To Honour The Battle Of The Atlantic Burgers and Ships

This is todays headline from the paper that claims so much.
It's sunk to an all time low today with a headline of BURGER & SHIPS at the start of The Battle of The Atlantic commemorations this week. Burgers &; Ships?
It is outrageous that those in charge of how we present ourselves as a city, and a city, that did so much during the war to eradicate the U-Boat threat. (thye city that also allowed Neil Scales to cut up U534 rescued from a Norwegian Fford) now finds itseld represented at an all time low.
This is the responsibility of the editor, the uncultured Alaistair Machray who has shown himself repeatedly to be making the paper, that he claims to speak up for people of Merseyside, to be no more than The Sun.
Here it is, giving burgers away with what must be one of the worst tasting headlines we can remember.
To allow the front page to turn into an advertorial  this week should be a boycottable offence.
You should hang your head in shame Mr Machray, if you know what the word shame means.
Is this the best you can do, to honour those heroes who were on the Arctic convoys in blizzards fighting for freedom..................so you can dishonour them by giving away a free burger in an advertorial.
How did you get confused with anIcelandic Convoys and a free burger from Iceland?
You have shown us up.
Those men, yes real men, not soppy little ponces who complain if the central heating isn't working, but men who had to endure hardships unfathomable in today's age, risking their lives for freedom.
So clowns like you could discredit their endeavours seventy years or so later.
You should be ashamed of yourself, you have also let down all those hardworking journalists who had compiled a moving and dignified way of displaying our gratitude to the dead and the families of the dead and the Naval service as whole.
At first glance the thoughts were that it may be an outrage that there are takeout vans down at the Pier Head and these have no place there.
The sort of thing that The Oldham Echo's hard working shipping correspondent Peter Elson campaigns against.
To make a good impression, to the flocks of people who now get off at the Landing stage when Cruise Liners arrive, but the first thing they see are burger vans.
But no.
This paper should be boycotted for this outrageous level of disrespect fot the fallen navy personal and the Merchant Seamen who perished, some of who froze as soon as they hit the icy waters of the Atlantic. Who spent months at sea fighting cat and mouse games with a formidable foe.

But no, get your free quarter pounder courtesy of Alaistar Machray and Co down at the disgusting little paper that shows no respect for people who did real work, risking thier lives.
And those journalists down at Oldham Hall Street that never stop whining about being overworked while they are deleting things from articles that may give the right impression to the public, take a hard look at yourselves.
You don't know what work is, sitting there in your air conditioned office. Remember the people that you today dishonoured with a disgraceful headline, fought, some of them fought and lost, with their lives for your freedom, so you can say what you like.
God help us there must be thousands of mariners today turning in thier icy graves in the dark depths of the Atlantic who thought they were fighting for your freedom.

HANG YOUR HEADS IN SHAME.

Cains Brewery Con Job-The Dusanj Brothers Are Selling Out Our History For More Empty Apartments.

And it looks like they have got the backing of Joe Anderson and Co.
The planners must have been working on this scheme to develop the site with the owners of the company as they have already issued the press releases to the gullable Daily Ghost and Oldham Echo who promoted it for them on April 11th.

They told how wonderful it was to be in the local rag.

Cains announce £50m ‘Brewery Village’ plan to breathe new life into historic Liverpool site

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2013/04/11/cains-announce-50m-brewery-village-plan-to-breathe-new-life-into-historic-site-100252-33153568/

Now a month later Alaistair Houghton writes

Union officials will visit Cains today to meet staff who lost their jobs after the company suspended its brewing operations.
Cains announced on Friday it was closing its loss-making supermarket own-label brewing and canning operation and axing 38 jobs.
The company, run by brothers Sudarghara and Ajmail Dusanj, has also started negotiations to sub-contract the brewing of Cains beers to a third party.
Franny Joyce, regional officer for Unite, is to meet affected workers to discuss what action they can take. Just 18 jobs remain at the site.
Production of beer at Cains’ landmark Stanhope Street site, off Parliament Street, stopped the week before last.
Cains said production will only resume if it wins permission to develop the site into a £50m “brewery village”.
The plans, revealed in the ECHO last month, would see the Grade II-listed redbrick original brewery building refurbished to house a craft brewery, a hotel, shops and a “delicatessen-type” food hall. A sky bar would also be installed on the roof.
The production sheds that face Parliament Street would be replaced by a supermarket with apartments on top.
Cains will submit its plans to Liverpool City Council this summer. If approved, work could start next year – but would take up to two years to complete.
On Friday a Cains spokesman told the ECHO: “Brewing at the site has been suspended while we progress our Brewery Village scheme and we are in negotiations to sub-contract the brewing of Cains products to a third- party brewery during this interim period.
“The nature of our brewery is such that its operation cannot be scaled down in a simple fashion and it would be financial madness to continue with such huge overheads for a relatively small brewing operation.”
He added: “We have said all along that the brewery is at the heart of our plans for the Brewery Village scheme and this remains the case.
“The existing brewery will be redesigned during the anticipated redevelopment so that it is more efficient and better suited for future use.
“We are continuing to discuss matters with our advisors about how we best manage winding up the current canning and brewery side of the business.
“Cains is alive and kicking and we are extremely positive about our future plans, which will secure brewing in the city for decades to come.”

13/5/2013  Gordant wrote in the comments section
Another disgraceful move by the owners. They put alot of people out of work when they went bust then were allowed to buy back the company. It is a disgrace. City council should not allow any planning permission for these people as they are only looking to line their own pockets by ripping others off.

WHY ARE THE LOCAL PRESS NOT QUESTIONING THESE FLY BOY TACTICS.
WHEN WERE THESE PLANS HATCHED?

The brothers have a history of playing fast and loose with the brewery and its workforce that doesn't bode well for their ambitious plans for the redevelopment of the site.
Here's an account of some pretty suspect practices reported in the Echo in 2008:
It would be reassuring to see the Echo take a more critical stance towards the local business community.

DAVID BARTLETT SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF FOR NOT QUESTIONING THESE PLANS BUT JOLLYING IT UP AS A GOOD NEWS STORY ON APRIL 11TH
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2013/04/11/cains-announce-50m-brewery-village-plan-to-breathe-new-life-into-historic-site-100252-33153568/

HE WROTE

CAINS has launched an ambitious bid to create a £50m ‘Brewery Village’ on its historic Liverpool site.
The plan involves restoring its original Grade II listed building to house a craft brewery, a hotel, digital studios, a delicatessen-type food hall, independent shops and a sky bar on the roof.
The sheds at the front of the site on Parliament Street would be demolished to make way for a supermarket with apartments built on top.
Stanhope Street, which runs through the middle of the seven-acre site but is closed to traffic, would be opened up to help create a market street type environment.
The company hopes the new “village” would become an extension of the nearby budding Baltic Triangle creative area.

TO HOUSE A CRAFT BREWERY...............Why did he not question them?
Why did he turn this into a good news story?
Probably because its been spoon fed to him by some dodgy PR company.
He dismisses the buildings as sheds, when this is where people work.

Shame on you David a month later the real news comes out.
You have been conned.

You published a glass half full story when the glass was half empty.

This area has grants available.

Will the Cains con-job that putspeople on he dole recieve a development grantto put people out of work?
Will the site be a Tesco?
We all know "Every little hurts".

Louise Ellmans constituancy again.....while she is stating how important jobs are for the city when she is promoting her friends at Peel Holdings, she keeps her head down again.

Liverpool Footbal Club-Dodgy Property Developers-R-us

It has taken a national paper to bring to the attention of the masses the plight of the once proud Anfield residents, whose area has  been torn apart by unscrupulous and dodgy property developers, Liverpool FC, and its bunch of hangers on.
Here is one we did in 2012 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/liverpool-football-club-are-responsible.html.
But it goes deeper than that.
The shyster manner that Anfield has been stealthed into decline goes back a long time, in fact back to the 80's.
The club began buying up property and boarding it up driving proud residents to despair a long time ago.
The Liverpool Echo did highlight it, occasionally
In Issue 989 of Private Eye 12th Nov 1999 it tells of two blokes with Scottish accents knocking on doors offering money to residents. click on article to expand
It is good to highlight the way that big business is now trampling ordinary folk.
A wall was daubed with paint last year
JOE ANDERSON-TRAITOR. It said it was quickly removed.
Joe Anderson needs to take a long hard look at his business links its not for him to become property developer, but to keep them in check, (by strange coincidence there is an article on the same page about Frank McSpiv of Downtown Liverpool in Joe Andersons pocket) because some owner of Liverpool Football club who thinks its a franchise, does not care one jot about peoples lives, or pensioners living in fear of being set on fire in their bed because next door is tinned up and has become a wasteland.

Are Liverpool Football club out of control, if the players such as Suarez Scum are not taught lessons.
You know there was a time when Tommy Smith would have taken the likes of a dodgy little upstart foreigner to one side and battered him for making a show of the city.
Bill Shankly would have sacked him, well he would never have employed someone who bites a fellow player.

Is Ian Ayres the right man for the CE roll of a club with such a proud tradition , that is being eroded.
Yes he says he is proud and all the right words, just like Brendan Rodgers but its actions that count, not words.

The piece that the Oldham Echo and the Daily Ghost did not write in the Guardian 7th May 2013. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2013/may/07/liverpool-new-stadium-city-fans

Liverpool Football Club, we the public made you great
And what do you give us back?
.....Contempt.

Manchester High Speed Rail Link-The Biggest Threat To Liverpool Since The Manchester Ship Canal.

Why were the local press not fighting against this High Speed Rail link going to Manchester? That would make Liverpool a branch line of Manchester. How have Peel Holdings, Joe Anderson and Louise Ellman got away with this?  Why did they not fight harder for Liverpool? The link should have gone to the Port of Liverpool. One of the reasons this blog was set up was to highlight the lack of foresight to wider issues and one of the first posts we did was a critique of the then Daily Post and Echo, and how they did not report that plans for a 500 million pound planning application had been passed for Port Salford that would enable the owners of the Manchester Ship Canal to circumnavigate Liverpool. The applicants were peel Holdings who look set to lose Liverpool its WHS status. Unesco,  having recently put Liverpool on the World Heritage "In Danger" list.
Taking into account that not only are Peel Holdings intending to blight us with the proposed inaproppriate development, turning...our docks into stagnant frappacino fluff area with 6000 apartments stacked like glass shoeboxes on top of one another. They look set to put the final nail in Liverpools manufacturing coffin by sending any chance of any future industry down the Manchester Ship Canal, to an area that is now setting itself up, to take control of any manufacturing in the North West.....Salford.
Just like its merchants attempted in Victorian times when the Ship Canal was in fact built to bypass us here in Liverpool.
The Ghosts of Dockers Past must be rolling in thier graves, at how this once proud port now looks set to become a suburb of Manchester..........right under the noses of everyone. Why were the powerbrokers not doing anything about it...........Louise Ellman.

Joe Anderson should hang his head in shame at activly encouraging this to happen.

Joe Anderson invented his certificate on the wall is a PR stunt that enables Peel Holdings to decimate this area and stop any future industry that may wish to come here.

Meanwhile some kid called Joe Thomas at The Liverpool Echo says

THE Government today insisted Liverpool will benefit from the new high-speed rail network – even though the new line will not extend to Merseyside.
 http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2013/01/28/high-speed-rail-will-benefit-merseyside
Tell you what lets just get Peel Holdings to write it.

Cllr Malcolm Kennedy Spins Marc Waddington another One...Just Like The Other One.

When are the local hacks going to realise that they are not PR for the council and are not there to make councillors look good with empty promises and PR spin.

This time its Marc Waddingtons turn to make Malcolm Kennedy, Liverpools Regeneration officer (who has not regenerated anything but his own career)  look good, with twaddle about a fifteen year plan to transform Islington.

He says:
LIVERPOOL’S Islington district is in line for a multi-million pound face lift over the next decade.
There are plans to transform up to 1.5m square metres of land with hotels, houses and offices in a bid to revamp one of the main routes into the city.
The council and developer Downing hope that the growing demand for high-quality student accommodation and the need for homes for ‘key workers’ like nurses and doctors will help stimulate the project.

All speculation Mr Waddington, but there you are making the council look as if they are doing good, getting all the (rigged by the council) comments section on the corrupted Echo website wound up, on Downing developments behalf.

He goes on to say:
The plans, originally conceived in 2005, were shelved in 2007, when it became difficult to raise finance for the scheme because of the credit crunch.
THE plan for the multi-million pound regeneration of Islington was progressing well before it became one of the many development victims of the credit crunch.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2012/10/04/15-year-masterplan-for-regeneration-of-liverpool-s-islington-gateway-100252-31962120/
(Our understanding is that the credit crunch started in 2008 Marc).
Are the council somehow subsidising Downing?

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/councillor-malcolm-kennedy-manipulating.html
So is Kennedy Manipulating the press
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/david-bartlett-takes-city-council-to.html
Or are they all in on it togther
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2011/10/peel-holdings-running-liverpool-city.html
What has Malcolm Kennedy actually done.

So why are we being spoon fed with half thought out ideas by Marc Waddington and co at the Oldham Echo about creating jobs, when they have just put all the Merseymart delivery boys out of a job.
All those old blokes who used to be kept busy with their trolleys, are now down the pub every Thursday and Friday drowning their sorrows with nowhere to go just because they now give it away free in the Echo........... er, hang on......... you have to buy an Echo to get a free paper.

It just gets worse.
Soon you will get a free Post in the Echo and its likely it will be full of he sae old ouncil spin that nobody believes anymore.

Liverpool World Heritage Status In Ruins-A Third World Country Could Manage The Site Better.

Waking Up To Reality

Local blogger Correspondent gives his slant on World Heritage reality, about to hit home.
It is worth recalling some of the worst headlines from the now(deservedly) defunct Daily Ghost.
Tuesday, June 19, 2012

http://condensedthoughts.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/waking-up-to-reality.html
A hazy state of semi-consciousness gives way to the sobering light of day. Half-remembered recollections of intoxicated excess & its attendant claims induce an initial cringe. Then comes the shudder, the mortifying realisation that things were said which owed more to conceitedness than careful consideration. The empty bottles tell their own story. Reality dawns. Too late.

One presumes that a collective shake of the head was in order at Oldham Hall Street today as Alastair Machray, et al, finally understood the ramifications of Peel's Liverpool Waters on the city's World Heritage Site status ( http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2012/06/19/unesco-prepare-to-start-process-of-stripping-liverpool-s-world-heritage-site-status-100252-31212104/  ).

Over at the city council, meanwhile, Joe "Tea & Sympathy" Anderson looks in the mirror, a smile on his face as he ponders his attire for that big day at the Palace (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-18460258 ). A minion timorously knocks on the door. Irritated to have his royal reverie abruptly curtailed, Joe brusquely snatches the copy of the Oldham Echo that is proffered by the hapless assistant & reads the comments he's OKed for publication:

"The main concerns raised about heritage issues on Liverpool Waters will not become an issue for several years as they focus on later stages of the project -- they will not be built for at least 10 years -- and detailed plans my be subject to change before then.

"We believe firmly that is is possible to have a world-class development while still retaining our world heritage status."

Joe knows it's hogwash, but he'd rather get back to his day at Buck House (what to say, how to act, perfecting that all-important bow). Never mind the fact that WHS status is now up for review by UNESCO in St Petersburg this weekend ( http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/liverpool-to-be-placed-on-unesco-world.html ).

Rewind a few hours & back on Oldham Hall Street the struggle to clear minds isn't easy. Someone helpfully recalls an editorial from last February & its dismissive one-liner about Liverpool's WHS ( http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/views/our-view/2012/02/29/liverpool-waters-plans-must-proceed-100252-30427746/  ):

"It's a great accolade to have, but some things are more important."

There's a tumbleweed moment in the office. Silence is followed by an embarrassed clearing of the throat & a muffled aside about getting on with some work.

Big Al Machray looks bewildered. Then irritated. Then purposeful. He calls together the finest minds at his disposal, an Echo Brains Trust, if you will. Drafting an editorial, they know it has to reflect Oldham Hall Street's new-found sobriety in discussing UNESCO's impending decision ( http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/views/our-view/2012/06/19/don-t-punish-the-city-of-liverpool-unesco-100252-31211961/ ):

"But as [UNESCO] prepare for their discussions, we would ask the committee members to be mindful that this is a city which is constantly evolving and improving -- and the waterfront must be a part of this positive development.

"The last thing this city wants to do is destroy its heritage, and we have no intention of allowing that to happen. We also have no intention of missing out on an exciting and ambitious scheme which aims to revive and regenerate the depressed northern docklands -- providing new hope, new opportunities and new jobs."

Heads are nodded in agreement that the latter point is sufficiently vague & poorly-researched for inclusion in an Echo editorial.

So far, so good. However, a concluding sentence is needed, one that combines a tacit acknowledgement that Liverpool Waters has terminal implications for the city's WHS with a reminder that the Echo is chronically addicted to the press releases issued by the Peel behemoth:

"Trust us to carry on combining the new and the old -- and allow us to retain the status you gave us, while continuing to look to the future."

Will that do, someone asks. There's a furrowing of brows, sotto voce reservations emanate from one or two & Big Al's most loyal lieutenants gaze at their efforts admiringly. Judgment is arrived at. That'll do, is the verdict.

Joe, meanwhile, resumes his thoughts about that day at the Palace. Across the city of which he is Mayor the cuts continue & Peel Holdings wait expectantly for UNESCO to do their worst.

9 Madryn Street, Ringos House-Why Knock It Down?

There is no point to destroy an area of cultural significance such as this.
This is the City that knocked down the Cavern Club and then called itself Beatles City.
Remember this garbage from Catherine Jones of the Oldham Echo, spin us another one Catherine.
I wrote about it a few weeks ago and I can now confirm that the City Council own the house as it has been passed from Merseytravel and the clutches of Neil Scales.
Just what he was doing with it is beyond me. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/11/why-does-merseytravel-own-ringos-house.html

Couldn't someone just intervene and save it and knock through a few of the houses on the same block and make a visitor centre. What a springboard to the revival of the area, that 30 years after the riots is still having a rough old time.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/06/louise-ellman-mp-dame-of-dereliction.html
Local Mp and all round lazy sod Louise Ellman, oh I do apoligise she may be busy, but not in her own constituency.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/poll/2011/jan/03/thebeatles-housing
The Guardian had the news that the housing Minister has written to Liverpool City Council urging them to save Ringo's house in Madryn Street.
The only people who seem to want to destroy it are the city council. Joe Anderson should intervene instead of spining us line after line of rubbish about this subject that should be cut and dried.

Let it be: 9 Madryn Street, Ringo Starr's childhood home, could be saved from demolition after the intervention of an MP.
January 2nd 2011
The terrace house where the former Beatle Ringo Starr was born could be saved from demolition after the intervention of a government minister.
The house at 9 Madryn Street, in the Dingle area of Liverpool, was due to be bulldozed as part of a multimillion-pound regeneration scheme. But Grant Shapps, the housing minister, has asked Liverpool city council to postpone the demolition of the house where the Beatles drummer was born in 1940, to allow more time for alternative plans to be considered.
"Any regeneration project will generate strong feelings," said Shapps. "But when what many people consider to be a culturally important building, such as the birthplace of the drummer in the world's most famous band, is at risk then feelings are going to be even stronger. That is why, before a single bulldozer rumbles along Madryn Street, I want to ensure every option has been considered. In particular, I want local community groups to have the opportunity to put forward viable proposals to preserve this historic house."
The minister's intervention follows a campaign by a group of Beatles fans. If the council ignores Shapps's request, his department has the power to step in to halt the project.
English Heritage has rejected a request for the property to be given listed status. Officials said it did not deserve a preservation order as it lacked "historic or architectural importance".
Some 445 pre-1919 terrace houses in Dingle's Welsh Streets neighbourhood will be replaced as part of the scheme. Starr, 70, lived at Madryn Street for the first few years of his life. A nearby home, 10 Admiral Grove, where he lived for 20 years, will remain standing.
The decision to demolish houses on Madryn Street was made in August but Liverpool's planning committee will meet this month to finalise the details. Liverpool city council says the ageing properties are "beyond economic repair", adding that local residents are desperate for better housing.
A spokesman said: "Grant Shapps may not be aware of the fact that we have consulted extensively with local residents over these plans and the overwhelming majority are in favour of them. Residents have been fully involved in developing the proposals and have shown they want decent homes to replace houses which have long passed their lifespan.
"They are telling us that they are absolutely sick of the delays and the conditions they have to live in. They want the city council to demolish these properties as soon as possible so that they can get on with their lives.
"It is vital for local people that this scheme goes ahead. We have not been helped by the massive cuts, but we are determined to get on with this work to improve the lives of local residents."
The childhood homes of John Lennon – Mendips, in Menlove Avenue – and Sir Paul McCartney – in Forthlin Road – are popular tourist attractions run by the National Trust. George Harrison's Arnold Grove childhood home remains a private house.
Last month a zebra crossing on Abbey Road in north London was given Grade II-listed status, even though it was moved in the 1970s, years after the band were photographed there for the cover of their Abbey Road album.

HMS Whimbrel-What Ever Happened To The Campaign To Save Her.

Here is a picture of Louise Ellman and John Livingstone lobbying Gordon Brown, the man who gave all our gold reserves away at two quid an ounce before the price lept to ten.
Then went on to sea lord over the biggest financial disaster of the century.
The Whimbrel was an important Black Swan Sloop,  playing a huge part in the Battle of the Atlantic.
"Is there a secret war time headquarters in Martins Bank Buildings" someone recently asked me.
"Yes its that secret its shut down and no-one knows about it" I replied. Thats what we do with our heritage.

We support the campaign to bring the Whimbrel back to Liverpool and spend a fortune on it, even though the Canning Dock is now a World Heritage Blight with the three black coffins on Mann Island and it will loook out of place.
How come those in Liverpool Vision such as Joe Anderson got £12,000,000 to put a cut through the Pier Head and let in.....Canal Barges when we have no way to put a proper boat there.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/12/barge-watch-liverpool-canal-link.html
We could have had the U-534 only some tosser cut it up watched by the local maritime press who swallowed the excuse that they had no room for it, hook line and........stinker.
 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/06/u-534-cut-up-into-five-pieces-by-neil.html

HMS Whimbrel (U29) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Whimbrel_(U29) here is the wikipedia link.

Here is the last we heard from Oldham Hall Street blaming the Egyptian Government, for the ineptitude of the crusty old sea dogs trying to save her, watching as scrap, no I said scrap metal values quadrupled. Then complaining when the Egyptians up the price, and they asked them to remove the asbestos.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2010/02/22/hms-whimbrel-campaign-countess-mounbatten-plea-to-egyptian-president-to-save-warship-100252-25884781/  The last I heard.
COUNTESS Mountbatten of Burma has now written to President Mubarak of Egypt, asking if he can intervene in the deadlock over returning the last of Capt Johnnie Walker’s warships, HMS Whimbrel, to Liverpool, to become the only official British Battle of the Atlantic memorial.

The problem is caused by the Egyptian Defence Ministry having quadrupled the agreed price of HMS Whimbrel from £250,000 to £1m.

The negotiators for this rusting hulk full of asbestos used the Nigel Mansell approach to buying car insurance.
Err.... how much do you want, OK we will pay it, until they realised that the Arab nations negotiate as a way of life and don't just accept the first insurance quote like most of the British.
The Duke of Westminister had made a substantial donation, but his £250,000 was returned as it cant be left forever in a dormant bank account.
Peter Elson who put a lot of his own time into this Daily Post Campaign, and is alright, wrote a Oldham Echo-ing piece in 2009, helping to evoke the spirit of the age.
AS THE merchant ship’s very soul groaned in its death throes, wallowing amid the pounding Atlantic swell on October 19, 1940, courageous men still combed her lower decks looking for life.
As they shone their torches around the bowels of the SS Assyrian, which was torpedoed while sailing from Halifax to Liverpool as part of Convoy SC7, they heard a cry.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/views/liverpool-columnists/peter-elson/2009/03/30/peter-elson-could-hms-whimbrel-really-be-set-to-come-home-92534-23261140/
I had to ban John Livingstone from my shop, as I kept getting earache, he was just too heavy, but he means well, and wants a memorial to all those heroic sailors who saved the fate of Europe from the Nazis in the Battle of the Atlantic. Not just a closed room in Martins Bank basement.
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/columnist/2010/03/11/hms-whimbrel-manxman-royal-iris-and-landfall-are-all-in-various-stages-of-rusting-or-sinking-100252-26006915/ Even big mouth Joe Riley joins in. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/columnist/2010/03/11/hms-whimbrel-manxman-royal-iris-and-landfall-are-all-in-various-stages-of-rusting-or-sinking-100252-26006915/
There is a bad monument to Johnnie Walker at the Pier Head by Tom Murphy. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/11/tom-murphy-dumping-bad-sculpture-on.html

So will we ever, in these economic times, caused by the very person who was asked to help the campaign, Gordon Brown, see another ship in the Liverpool Docks that we can call our own.
Or is it just wading into deep water a sinking idea.

What happened to the Manxman. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/ss-manxman-its-over-its-scrap-and-its.html

But don't worry folks everything is alright we have saved the Cruise Liner Jetty and the embarrasment of planning a disaster.
It says so in the Daily Post and Echo today. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/12/10/chancellor-george-osborne-gives-new-hope-to-liverpool-cruise-terminal-plan-92534-27801487/  The headline reads.
Chancellor George Osborne gives new hope to Liverpool Cruise terminal plan
Quizzed by the Daily Post, the Chancellor hinted strongly that the decision – imposed by the previous Labour administration – would be overturned when the current government completes its review.
He described the block on cruises starting and finishing at the Pier Head as “rather odd”, giving a significant boost to the Daily Post’s campaign to lift the ban.
Talk about making a crisis out of a drama this is a front page.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/06/cruising-from-liverpools-langton-dock.html
Talk about Wading into deep water.
David Wade-Smith claims he saved the Cruise Liner jetty from the scrapheap at a Liverpool Vision board meeting. Thanks for that.
This is, in my opinion as the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the moron, who promoted Mann Island development as beneficial to Liverpool, making it now look out of place to have boats there. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/06/david-wade-smith-not-right-choice-as.html

Joe Anderson is the longest serving board member of Liverpool Blind Vision. Mates with Wade-Smith for a long time eh Joe.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/12/09/liverpool-vision-to-be-taken-under-city-council-control-92534-27794467/
The same old people responsible for the cruise liner cock up are now getting on board.

Louise Ellman, the Riverside MP, who chairs the Commons transport committee, and part of the government who would not let cruises start at the Pier Head, in the article said:
“I thought it was a very encouraging answer, on what is a vitally important issue.”
So we now have Louise Ellman trying to save the Cruise Liner Jetty, she cant even save her own son who was recently arrested. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/10/14/son-of-liverpool-mp-louise-ellman-held-by-police-in-meow-meow-drug-raids-92534-27467654/
She is now asking a Tory cuts reaper to help the get on board the Get On Board Campaign, and now its all fine because George Osborne describes the situation as "odd" and its all going to be saved.

Its all very odd to me, how the same old people are making the same old mistakes they always have, and are still getting away with it.

Liverpool Black History Month-Will Dr David Fleming Be Taking Part?

ORGANISERS of Liverpool’s Black History Month are promising a packed programme of events.

The sixth annual festival, which starts today, aims to celebrate black history, culture and heritage.
This year’s event also coincides with Liverpool hosting the 15th MOBO awards for urban music at the Oldham ECHO Arena on October 20.
Highlights include the Black Achievers Awards and the Cultural Food Feast as well as a host of film nights, lectures, book launches and more.
National Museums Liverpool is also marking Black History Month with a series of events at venues across the city and a new book about slavery. The Black Achievers awards night is a prestigious black tie event which will be held on October 9 at St George’s Hall.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/oct/01/black-history-month-hero-worship

The book, called Transatlantic Slavery: An Introduction, has also been launched by the International Slavery Museum.
 http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/10/01/liverpool-s-sixth-annual-black-history-month-launches-today-92534-27377424/

So after the director of Liverpool's International Slavery Museum recently said at a symposium about slavery,
"I want all young black men to feel shit"
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-want-all-young-black-men-to-feel-shit.html should he be allowed to continue in his post and be allowed to educate us on matters of black history and slavery. I am not the son of a slaver I have no responsibility to be viewed as a slavers son.
Should the city editor of Liverpool's Daily Ghost writer for the museums and mate of Dicky Felton, PR for Fleming, be allowed to continue,  http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/08/trinity-smoking-mirror-burying-dynamite.html for burying the story of this magnitude.
The public deserve to know when their Representatives are behaving no more than ignorant bigot fashion, making worse stereotypes than those directors of museums, the racist museum directors of the the racist past, who used to ransack foreign shores and treat people as human loot and who now make free publicity in returning things that should never have been removed.
It is interesting how a Dicky Felt-tip publicity shot was arranged to show what a jolly good fellow Fleming is.
Instead of reporting the true picture of a man who in my opinion has got a racist undertone in his speak they bump him into a jolly good fellow. http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/09/24/national-museums-liverpool-hands-back-human-remains-to-australia-92534-27332944/ Now I am not for one minute saying it is not right to return the human remains to their rightful place but it is a coincidence it happens now. pic courtesy of the Daily Museums at Old Hall Street.
The last time Flem went down-under he upset all his staff saying all curators are dysfunctional characters. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/watching-detectives.html
So taking one to know one, Fleming is to be investigated by Liverpool City Council after Joe Anderson was made aware of his comments. David Bartlett at Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors is aware of this fact and has spoken to the person investigating him. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/08/dr-david-fleming-to-be-investigated-by.html

So now he is giving the museums assets back to their rightful owners, can we have all our Herculaneum pottery back, http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/10/maritime-dining-rooms-maritime-disaster.html

But when the local press bury news what can you expect for the truth.

Liverpool to Inspire Paris- Sarkozy Says So. Or Is It Just more Bull.

No, David "Stinky Ink" Bartlett made the story up to fit in with filling empty pages at the Daily Ghost with crap stuff that is a laughing stock to journalism.  You have to question the education of those at Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors in Oldham Hall Street. In fact so pathetic is todays chip paper, today, that you have to say no wonder they are in such a bad state. The opposite to what he has, well if you could call it, written, applies.
UNESCO said that Liverpool should take inspiration from Paris in the way they have built all their modern buildings in the La Defense district away from the world heritage site.  Mark Waddington is just as thick http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/06/17/french-president-nicolas-sarkozy-looks-to-liverpool-to-inspire-regeneration-of-paris-92534-26669233/  Even though he was talking about regeneration in LaHavre, that I have visited 60 times, he twists it round to suit a pathetic editorial stance that only serves the people by decieving them.
New council leader Joe Anderson says: "If ever proof were needed that Liverpool is one of the great cities of the world, this report is it."You don't just have to take his word for it, ask the French.
Someone said Joe Anderson make Warren Bradley look educated.
First it was Prince Charles http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/07/warren-bradley-you-are-not-very-clever.html telling Warren Bradley how great it is.as if. An aquanitance gave stinky ink Bartlett a letter to the contrary from Charles's office, and he would not print any of it. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/concourse-house-one-step-forward-and.html What about this carbuncle.
Oh and this one http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/liverpool-wins-carbuncle-cup.html
Imagine if they built three black coffins over the Eifel Tower. This is what Stinky Ink Bartlett writes on his blog.
 http://blogs.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/dalestreetblues/2010/06/bienvenue-a-liverpool---french.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LiverpoolDailyPost-DaleStreetBlues+%28Liverpool+Daily+Post+-+Dale+Street+Blues%29 Pathetic.

I think if the french President had understood what we have done to the world heritage site he would not have said a word.

David "Stinky Ink" Bartlett-Pitches for a Job With Aurora PR.

We know how it works but do the public. Aurora who use to be the dreadful October Communications who sold us out on behalf of Neptune Developments promoting the right to build on the World Heritage Site. They had worked for NML and Liverpool Vision and the North Vested Interest Development Agency.
http://blogs.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/dalestreetblues/2010/06/guest-blog-jon-egan-on-labour.html

You would think they would be outlawed as dispicable characters but no Larry Neild decided his future was with them and jumped the sinking Trinity "Smoking" Miirror ship.
I had thought I was working with the papers, breaking news stories dispelling PR pap.
Larry reported that there was a covenant on the land at the Pier Head stating the fact that nothing could be built higher than 80ft, the approximate height of the new museum. This was a red herring and it was 40ft. This is called not doing your job properly and checking facts.  I had spoken to Rex Makin regarding the fight against Mann Island developments. "You wont stop it Wayne, he said, Doreen Jones is retiring she doesnt care". I solke to Larry the Lamb, chomping away on his molars, and he said "Very Interesting" and went and did a three part story about the Dame of Disasters life.
No wonder he got a job in PR and now slices all he likes into the paper he used to work for in Oldham Hall Street.. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/trinity-smoking-mirrors-group.html
This despite him telling me, being against all the principles laid down by the PR wand of October. I used to think Larry was a big man, in a little mans body. But now I just think he is a little man. He was being spoon fed PR snippets from Jon Egan and Co and printing it. He even won an award for his reporting in the Baltic Triangle. October Communications were PR for Windsor Developments whom, it was reported in Business Week, had a Director who had been struck off the accountants register for alleged fraud. Clever Trevor http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/09/trevor-jone-steps-down-good-riddance.html was in all the meetings thay held, I am relaibly informed. I dont know how these people can live with themselves.
But now Larry the Lambs predesesor David "Stinky Ink" Bartlett is getting himself in there with Jon Egan for when the Daily Ghost evaporates into thin air.  http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/10/dave-bartlett-blues-he-should-have-gone.html
Or will he get a job with Peel Holdings. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/03/peel-holdings-want-pier-head-stinky-ink.html
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/10/peel-holdings-liverpeel-its-happening.html

Beware the reportage of Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors and their PR pap on behalf of their mates. They dont represent you and never have done. They represent vested interests and some of those pretending to be reporters of balanced stories deserve no respect.

Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors. Helping Peel Barge Jobs Out of the City.

Yesterday I put a link up to a BBC programme about the Liverpool Manchester Rivalry which started with the building of the Manchester Ship Canal to bypass Liverpool. Peel Ports are now the main distribution centre for Tescos imports it seems. All the signs are there but Trinity "Smoking" Mirrors at the Daily Ghost continue to be touts for Peel Holdings. Innocently, maybe,  Peter Elson today asks what is happening at Peel Ports he is told everything is alright and then prints the reply without questioning the threats to Liverpool jobs and the need to keep an eye on the stategy of Peel who it now seems are running the Oldham Echo. (see picture of the Echo Delivery Barge being towed down from the Oldham printing presses). Its called confirmation bias.
What chance have you got of your local press protecting jobs when they themselves send the printworks to Oldham. We asked is it us who are being Barged by Peel Holdings.
Today "Psycho" Gleeson, as he is known at Trinity Smoking says.
EDDIE STOBART started its £25m-a- year distribution contract for Tesco yesterday with the arrival of the first goods at the brand new chilled distribution centre at Widnes.

The symbolic first shipment of goods passed out through the gates of a new 528,000 sq ft Tesco chilled distribution facility for the supermarket giant.
The new centre is part of the Mersey Multimodal Gateway, a brown-field site development undertaken by Stobart Group. The project will support the creation of up to 5,000 jobs when completed.
Steve O'Connor, managing director of Stobart Ports, said: “Today marks the completion of phase one of this project. Tomorrow sees us host potential new customers and occupiers for the rest of the site.”
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/05/19/start-of-new-era-in-chilled-distribution-at-stobart-92534-26473910/
Peter Elson ties this up with this headline.
Twice as much barging for Peel Ports in new era of Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal harmony .
He fails to understand that it is us who are being barged and jobs will be lost in Liverpool as a result.
He says; PEEL Ports has doubled its barge service along the Manchester Ship Canal (MSC) as container traffic grows from the Port of Liverpool.

This is the equivalent of removing 150 lorries from the road for each of the barge’s journeys.
Dubbed the “Tesco wine barge” when introduced 18 months ago, its loads include stone from India for MediaCity, at Salford Quays.
He continues; “Our aim is to grow the Port of Liverpool by linking inland through the Manchester Ship Canal,” said Stephen Carr, Peel Mersey Ports head of business development.

“What’s been done in setting this up over the last three months proves you can move cargo by barges.
“In three months’ time, we expect another raft of users to be on board.
“The service can be developed by creating hubs where the barge can stop to off-load containers.
“The Media City construction site’s use of the barge is a good case study,” said Mr Carr.

“The stone arrives deep-sea at Antwerp, is transferred by container ship to Liverpool, and then onto the barge.
“At Irlam Container Terminal, the stone is put into pallets and back onto the barge to be craned out on site.
“It’s not just a water-land interface, it’s adding value to the supply chain.”
More imports from Ireland are being barged to Quality Freight, at Ellesmere Port.
Tesco barges thousands of bottles of wine to Kingsland Wine & Spirits, in Salford, for packing and distribution.
Mr Carr refuted criticisms Peel is by-passing Liverpool in favour of the Ship Canal and Salford Quays.
“Every piece of cargo which goes along the Ship Canal comes through the Port of Liverpool,” he said.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/05/19/twice-as-much-barging-for-peel-ports-in-new-era-of-mersey-and-manchester-ship-canal-harmony-92534-26473865/
I think we need to start up a new campaign.
SAVE PETER ELSON. From his own employers who are now no more than Peel Touts.
