Save Liverpool's World Heritage Site-From Liverpol City Council and its "Cosy" Developer Friends, Peel Holdings.

As part of our aim to highlight the real threat to Liverpool's World Heritage Site from the very people who should be protecting it.
The City Council, I took part in a feature for the ONE SHOW on BBC 1 Friday last th2 2nd December 2011

http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b017t724/?t=2m26s  It is 2 min 25 seconds into the programme.
Cue Paul Brant the council spokesman, with more Liver Building myths.
Surely he, being a legal minded person can understand that there is no argument for any controversy when they built the Liver Buildings, it just suits him to denigrate the Icon of the city.
 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/08/liver-building-denigration-by-liverpool.html

The BBC unfortunately fall for it every time.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/07/liver-building-lies-propagated-by-bbc.html

Brant was furnished one comment made by the owners of the Port of Liverpool Buildings (Liver Buildings competitors at the time) supplied by, opinion for hire Peter de Figueiredo. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/peter-de-figueiredo-opinion-for-hire.html
Who was the Historic Buildings advisor for English Heritage when Liverpool Vision put the idea for the "Three Black Coffins" at the Pier Head forward?  That Councillor Paul Brant apparently objected to?

Peter de Figueiredo is now secretly working for Peel Holdings.
Just how many of Liverpool City Council are too?

John Hinchliffe Tries To Shaft Us.

We predicted it was going to be a whitewash and that's what the World Heritage Officer tried.

We have it down in writing, how the meeting was to be formulated, but when we got there the double dealing Hinchliffe tried to direct us into a forum.
"You have had years to organise debates and you want one now today, there is not a chance"
Ian Wray of the world heritage steering group says "I am the chair"
"I am the table, I said, and I will not be going into any meeting being led by a council poodle"

I had already told Trevor Skempton and Peter Brown of the Civic Society, who do not have a remit on this matter, from the group, as this has not been a meeting to discuss it, I am reliably informed, that I would not be setting foot in any room with them.
David Swift stood his ground with me. Florence Gersten was already upstairs, she had been excluded from any meetings until we complained.
So Hinchliffe, who has sat shuffling paper for 5 years, now wants to turn into a negotiator.
"Not a chance" I told him "We are not being pushed around in a pram by you, like you did last time"
Hearing the noise and me throwing my arms around and telling Hinchliffe. "Not a chance, full stop you are not going to stifle what I have to say and we will only meet the inspectors privately"
Ron Van Oers who we met last time in the 2006 visit came over and said just as I said "That it I am going" waving my hands.
"Would you like a private meeting"..............."Yes"............"We will come down and see you shortly"

Hinchliffe said "Oh yes we have a spot ICOMOS UK have not turned up"
"Are there any reports on Liverpool Waters from ICOMOS UK", I asked him
"Errrr not sure, there may be", he waffled
"Of course the City Council joined them as a corporate member did they not"
"Err maybe"
So Hinchliffe, the double dealer had been telling all that the meeting was to be transparent, yet Peter de Figeuirido, the 'Opinion for hire' now working for Peel, was with the party at the Pier Head.
(He was the historic buildings advisor for English Heritage once, therefore a colleague of Henry Owen-John.
Owen John was there, as was Graham Ives "You probably has seen my name on various reports"
Yes far too many I thought I would not trust you as far as I could throw John Hinchliffe.

The mission came downstairs, and asked us some questions about who we represent, then we told them we don't recognise any steering group and cannot trust the MCS, and told them the reasons, we advised them that Hinchliffe is a total waste of space will do anything his paymasters tell him...........and that last time you were here.......Mr Van Oers.......... you let us down badly, I told him that he failed to grasp the gravity of the situation, when the Black Coffins were under planning, The City Council then under Warren Bradley promised to protect the World Heritage Site.
"If I remember rightly there were three, the Ferry Terminal the museum and Mann Island"
"You needed to be stronger and give advice, they are all carbuncles, if that's not affecting the Outstanding Universal Value then what is" I told him.
"We had to compromise English Heritage were in support of it"
"Yes but I told you their Chairman Sir Neil Cossons was working for the Liverpool Museums and they had promised him a steam train exhibition to curate, and Loyd Grossman the ex chair was he Museums Chair of NML"
He went on to give a long explanation and I looked at him along with Patricia Alberth and Mr Barbato who said nothing, and said
"You made a major mistake that we have to live with for ever, you got it badly wrong"
He was a bit shaken and said "Look I can assure you this time we will not be making any mistakes, this is very serious"
David Swift had handed them a print run of pictures of the Mann Island and Pier Head before and after, and there it was plain as day, architectural vandalism had occured.

Hinchliffe then came in and asked if we could finish the meeting as there was others waiting upstairs
"You have had 20 minutes"

He's so kind, the double dealing waste of space that is supposed to be employed to protect World Heritage not roll over like a fluffy poodle, and have his belly tickled by any Spiv or Speculator that wants to build anything in the World Heritage Site.

Todays paper sees Joe Anderson proclaiming we will protect our heritage.....look what we did to the Bluecoat...............knocked down Herbert Tyson Smiths Workshop, that was intact and created a plastic palace.............Warren Bradley, now Joe Anderson, Its Dumb and Dumber.

Wellington Rooms-Call This Regeneration.

The Wellington Rooms-Liverpools Disgrace.

They at the City Council talk of Regeneration and even have a Regeneration Officer appointedbyJo Anderson called Malcolm Kennedy, who it appears, to my mind, is so wrapped up with Peel Holdings that he cant see the true nature of our citys historic past.

What is the point in letting this historic building rot.
Here is a picture taken in 1989 by Jeremy Hawthorn, I hope he won't mind me using it.
I am revisiting a plea I made years ago.
click on the pic as a demonstration to save the buildng was unfurled all over it
It was on a calender that was published by The Nerve a local magazine that does its best to highlight some of the rubbish put out by council spin doctors. http://www.catalystmedia.org.uk/
How can this building be left to rot after a billion pounds of European objective one funding has been swagged to the cronies who have contacts in the North "Vested Interest" Development Agency.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/06/joe-anderson-to-save-liverpools.html  What will Joe Anderson the Tory Cuts Reaper do.
Here is Correspondents take on the situation.
http://condensedthoughts.blogspot.com/2011/01/joe-anderson-implements-tory-cuts.html

The Wellington Rooms in Mount Pleasant were once described as a ‘house of mirth and revelry’. They were erected after funds were raised by public subscription in 1815.
An Adaptation of the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates of Athens, which was illustrated in the influential publication by Stuart and Revelt Antiquities of Athens.
It had a porch on one side for the setting down of sedan chairs.
The Portico was originally open but was found to be draughty and a disfigurement to the original design was made with the blocking up.
A ballroom of some 80ft by 40ft it had a card room and a supper room.
It was thought to have been frequented by the upper classes, as subscription balls, assemblies and occasional fancy dress balls.
How that description conjures up the most remarkable images of Georgian Liverpool. A Maritime City at the nucleus of its upward growth taking it to the city of its height in the early 20th century.
I grew up with it being known as The Irish Centre in the 70s and 80s, and ignorant of these facts relating the building back to the Battle of Waterloo and Napoleons defeat by the then axis powers under the leadership of the Duke of Wellington.

It was 2008 that I highlighted its plight in a walkabout with Peter Elson. And this Georgian gem still rots.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2008/01/29/living-on-the-eve-of-destruction-64375-20405391/  This was for the Daily Ghost.
The deterioration seems to have been helped by the lead on the roof going missing. What state inside to the plasterwork?
There were ghastly plans to develop it by sticking a rubic cube sort of extension on the back, this was done by a consortium of Flanagans, the local builders.
Did one of the Flans go to Shanghai as a guest of one of the senior, very senior members of the council.
The plans looked more like a sketch on the back of a jerry-builders ciggy packet than a professionals work . http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/tm_method=full&objectid=20615285&siteid=50061-name_page.html

On the English Heretic at risk register for as long as I can remember. Henry Owen John http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2008/03/22/the-changing-face-of-liverpool-64375-20658839/  the area director should be ashamed of himself as should the joker who was the Historic Buildings advisor Peter De Figeurido who let it rot while sucking up to the developers of Mann Island, who it is alleged is now working for Peel Holdings.
Click the link above to see him and the Reichmarshal Nigel Lee making excuses after my article sent waves out about the neglect. Waffling on about the joke about Liver Building Controversy.
While today the Royal Liver is to leave its spiritual home. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news//tm_headline=jobs-axed-as-royal-liver-head-office-in-liverpool-to-close%26method=full%26objectid=29196403%26siteid=100252-name_page.html With the loss of 110 jobs. Now there is contoversy.

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/190609north_west_2009_har_register.pdf
And what of Chris Griffiths and Steve Corbett of the useless Liverpool Conservation office.
Next to it and with objective one funding an extension was built on the Gibbard Cathedral, that Oscar Niemeyer rip off, Paddys Wigwam while this wonderful little Georgian gem lies there, rotting, a forlorn looking Mausoleum to Liverpools Regeneration Con.

A disgrace. The Council Have Powers to Save This Historic Gem.

LIVER BUILDING DENIGRATION-By Liverpool City Council

Why are we paying Liverpool city council officials to bring down the Liver Buildings as a symbol of the city?
To Denigrate them.

Why are they intent on continually scraping together as much negativity about the Liver buildings as they possibly can.

To Denigrate them.

Why does every council official, that you pay, at the earliest opportunity slag off the Icon of the city?

 To Denigrate them.

Why are these people being allowed to get away with propagating untruths?

Is it opinion for hire Peter de Figueiredo http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/peter-de-figueiredo-opinion-for-hire.html who was the Historic Buildings advisor for English Heritage when Liverpool Vision put the idea for the ier Head forward?
Who is now employed by Peel Holdings.

Well its easy the World Heritage Site has been destroyed and they want you the public to believe there was some almighty controversy surrounding Liverpool's waterfront. See pic above of the Port Of Liverpool Buildings now, with a giant Lean-To.   http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/07/museum-of-liverpool-nominated-for.html

There was no controversy whatsoever, there may have been debate and sour grapes on the part of the owners of the Port of Liverpool Building who wanted their building to be the symbol of the city............and that's it.
There is no credible reason for anyone to state there was controversy at the time of the building of the Port of Liverpool Buildings and the Liver.

Unless you had no pride in the city and had vested interests in slagging off the Liver Buildings.

So lets ask who it is doing it, Joe Anderson recently defended Peel Holdings proposals several times by slagging off the Liver Buildings believing that if he says it enough times the public would believe it.......what is the point in that, why bring down your city. Why Denegrate.

http://m.bdonline.co.uk/comment/debate/is-liverpool-waters-a-threat-to-the-city%E2%80%99s-heritage?/5021960.article
He says "This week, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the iconic Liver Building. At the time of its construction, it too was hugely controversial and divided opinion. A century on, a Liverpool waterfront without the Liver Building is completely unthinkable".
This was in BD magazine. See Terminal Ferry Carbuncle above for controversy.

Every opportunity they send a councillor out to top up the untruths....so you may believe them eventually.
Paul Brandt did the same denigrating speech, yards away from me while I was waiting to do a BBC Northwest interview, he did almost say “When they built the Liver Buildings, err hundreds, err, and then covered himself, err, tens of years ago”, reminiscent of the famous Warren Bradley “When they built the Liver Buildings 800 years ago” speech on BBC.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?http://www.liverpoollabour.org/NewsandPictures/Warren_Bradley_Confusion_Over_Three_Graces.aspx The Labour Party even have a swipe at him on their website.
Paul Brandt was very active before the last election. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/04/mann-island-is-penny-finally-dropping.html
Talking about The Three Black Coffins at Mann Island, he said.
“I like the buildings. I think they’re great buildings, but I think they’re in the wrong place or on the wrong scale or massing. (Clever man).
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/04/26/protected-views-of-liverpool-s-three-graces-lost-to-new-mann-island-development-92534-26317623/
Funny That I didn’t see him or hear him objecting he then continues.
It seemed to me to be madness to be downgrading views of some of our architectural heritage in a way that might make it less attractive to visit, especially as these areas were deemed to be so exemplar that they were given World Heritage status.
“It’s a major piece of investment and what was there before – the Mann Island car place – was hardly exemplar.”
He added that the building’s impact on the views has not taken him by surprise because he had looked at models of the area before they were built.
But he said: “I’m deeply disappointed that those views are now being lost. It’s bizarre that Liverpool residents now have to go to Birkenhead to see that best view of the Three Graces.”

Interesting...............

So is it a Liverpool City Council directive, right from the top that states, if you get any opportunity slag off the Liver Buildings, while you are there make up a load of bull about controversy a hundred years ago and then this may justify the current carbunculation crop?

Is it because they want Joe Andersons friends at Peel Holdings and their lobby group DLIB, led by Frank McSpiv, to be given a free hand, something that Unesco will now stop, by giving the DCMS directives, that will in turn be passed on with planning orders, to the inept and pathetic Liverpool planners, who cant even read their own planning documents.
That were prepared to stop, under Unesco directive, them cocking up the rest of the WHS, away from the Liver Buildings. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2011/07/liverpool-waters-back-to-drawing-board.html
pic Joe Anderson with Lindsay Ashworth of Peel Holdings
So lets see if you, if you the public, believe the Liver Building lies, could you then be stupid enough to think that the complete architectural carbunculation of Liverpool's Pier Head, a World Heritage Site will be alright, because in some distant time in the past it was all thought to be controversy and you will all love it one day.

If I tell you enough times Joe Anderson is clever and understands our architectural history, will you believe me..............not a chance.

They have cocked it up the symbol of the city Joe Anderson as part of Liverpool Vision did it, and they at the Council, think if they lie to you often enough it will pull the wool over the public eyes.

I think the good people of Liverpool are clever enough to see through the LIVER BUILDING LIES and see the only thing that is controversial about the Liver buildings is why our own city council are spreading them.

Remember what we had.

Liverpool Waters-Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dock.

Henry Owen-John, English Heretic, well known to these pages is at it again, playing around with Liverpool's Heritage. My opinion is he is now going through the motions on Liverpool waters.

Peel Holdings, it is said, is facing increasing pressure from English Heritage to make further changes to its plans for the £5.5billion Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme.
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dock, playing the game to pretend he is doing his job, but behind closed doors?

HE HAS DONE MORE DAMAGE THAN THE LUFTWAFFE.
pic Lancashire Economic Partnership
In the realms of the destruction of Liverpool’s Architectural History one name stands out above all others, that of Herman Goering.
He and the Luftwaffe saw to it that during the blitz we lost so many architectural masterpieces that they could never be replaced.
We were once The Athens of the North .
The Customs house by John Foster Jr seems to spring to mind when thinking in a solemn mood. Bombed and then knocked down to give work to people after the war. They didn't think to rebuild it to dole out work!!!
Add another name that of HENRY OWEN-JOHN.

This is what the Architect Journal recently reported. http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/daily-news/english-heritage-hits-out-at-55bn-liverpool-waters-scheme/8611903.article It may be paywalled so I have printed it.

In December last year the developer submitted plans, overseen by Chapman Taylor, to construct a series of skyscrapers in the city’s northern docklands, claiming the scheme would create more than 25,000 jobs and boast more than 14,000 apartments.
But Henry Owen-John, regional head of English Heritage (EH), said Peel had a ‘significant’ way to go to prove scheme would not damage the city’s World Heritage Site and warned that EH would fight the development if further concessions were not made.
Peel’s plans are already being considered by Liverpool City Council, and the company’s director of investment, Lindsey Ashworth, said last year that they were not prepared to make any more changes after already making substantial reductions to the size of the development.
Should EH lodge an objection and planning permission is granted, it is likely the scheme would be referred to Communities Secretary Eric Pickles.
Owen-John said English Heritage has commissioned an independent report into the potential impact of the scheme, and revealed that advisers from Unesco, which oversees World Heritage Sites, were also preparing a report on the project after being contacted by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
In an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Daily Post, Owen-John said: ‘We fully support the principle of developing the area. Clearly it is a brownfield site at the moment which is inaccessible and there is real opportunity that could have enormous benefit for Liverpool widely and north Liverpool particularly.
‘I think we have come a long way in three years and we are appreciative of the changes that Peel have made. The scheme is now very significantly different, there were many more tall buildings.
‘The adjustments that have been made are clearly significant from Peel’s point. We feel, despite that, we are not quite there in being able to reach agreement with Peel.’

HE IS ABOUT TO SELL OUT AND CAVE IN. Weak will is his forte.
Hi ex buddy the disgusting ex historic building advisor Peter de Figueiredo is advising Peel.
There should be laws against this.
 http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/09/peter-de-figueiredo-opinion-for-hire.html

Listen to him, on the washed up Roger Philips BBC Radio Merseyside programme yesterday. He comes on about 35 minutes in and goes through the same old shit again, about, when they built the Liver Buildings there was controversy and Philips, who is waiting for his retirement, trying to be Devils Advocate, but now well and truly part of the establishment goes with him. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00f00q3/Roger_Phillips_02_03_2011/

Though I previously said they at English Heretics were against the scheme it is now clear Chief English Heretic, Owen John is now caving in, well he was never against it really, just appearing to be, and my prediction is will come to an arrangement with Peel and his mate, the opinion for hire, Peter de Figueiredo.

What is John Hinchliffe doing, as usual, nothing, his wages funded by the English Heretics.

What are the Victorian Society doing, what are the upper class twits at SAVE Britains Heritage doing.................Sod All.

Update 30.9.2021
Liverpool has now lost its wWorld Heritage Site Status depite objecting to a new Stadium at Bramley Moore Dock they grant, secretly a immunity for listing to the historic Goodison Park.

Peter de Figueiredo-Opinion For Hire.

A year ago we wrote about the despicable Peter de Figueiredo and how he was being employed by Peel Holdings and I commented on how there should be some sort of laws against this sort of thing. As Liverpool's historic buildings advisor he was responsible along with Henry Owen-John the regional Development Director (sic) of the English Heretics, for some of the worst decisions that have afforded Liverpool's architectural demise since Goering sent a squadron or three to firebomb the gubbings out of us. Here he is with Julian Truherz his partner at the Save Exhibition Triumph Disaster and Decay. Marcus Binney the President of SAVE was given a personal of Liverpool by him. The other milksop face just obscured is Joseph Sharples who claimed all the credit for updating Pevsners even though most of the work was done by some-one else.
http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html

Yseterday at a planning meeting regarding Crosby town centre and its proposed disastrous developments that were defeated after 250 people turned up, a note was read out by the representatives of Sainsburys that said. We have a letter of support for these proposals from
Peter de Figueiredo who was, it was said, the historic buildings advisor for English Heritage and he supports the proposals that we are putting forward stating that in his opinion they are good for the area.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/09/16/sainsbury-s-50m-crosby-village-plans-are-rejected-by-sefton-council-68459-27277397/

This man lives with his partner in a Gothic pile on the Wirral where he entertains the likes of the c20 society with guided tours and posh-knobs it with anyone who can give him a fee, when he is not in his holiday home in Tuscany. What does he care about Crosby.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/07/henry-owen-john-same-old-english.html

I know he can sleep at night because he has never had a conscience and has been alloweed to get out of control by a system that does not police itself.
Someone shouted at one of the councillors playing politics as it was defeated 6-5 Shame on you.

Shame on you  Peter de Figueiredo you are a disgrace to your proffession, an opinion for hire. In my opinion, Whoring yourself to the highest bidder.

English Heritage-Its Like The Goon Show In There.

Last night on the BBC was a re-run of a series originally broadcast to show off the work that the English Heretics do, and, to be a showcase for its then Chairman, the Little Lord Fonteroy of a director, their very own Saville Row Bazooka Joe, Dr Simon Thurley.
Instead it exposed the sham facade that is English Heritage to be nothing more than a incompetent bunch of Hooray Henry's sneering down their noses like condescending little balloons. As it where!

Liverpool Waters-English Heritage Hold Secret Meetings To Discuss Our City.

Tomorrow 28th July a secret meeting will take place where Greame Ives will present a English Heritage report into the Peel proposals to carve up the rest of the World Heritage Site compliled by him and Henry Owen-John. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/07/henry-owen-john-same-old-english.html
We can, be in no doubt, still lose WHS status because of these proposals. Unesco can and will act.
Overall Universal Value can and will be hit is these go ahead in their present form. EH, have said however that there are significant changes that need to be carried out and some of them are for the better.

In a confidential report prepared after another secret meeting at 1700hrs on the 14 July, between Joe Anderson and Baroness Kay, along with Mike Burchnall and John Kelly with Henry Owen-John present the Peel scheme was discussed.

Joe Anderson, then had a candlelit dinner at 18.30hrs with Baroness Andrews the Chairman of English Heritage in the swanky Panoramic Restraunt, just the two of them.
The EH report compiled by Graeame Ives says; Buildings on the riverfront should be no higher than 15 storeys and that the Shanghai tower should be reduced significantly. There is a plan to reduce it to 55 Storeys and plonk it on plot 3 on Princes Dock. What a joke how can they even think this. This will change the Skyline into Shanghai and I dont say that kindly.
The meeting and presentation 28th July 2010 is entitled Liverpool Waters Master Plan.

The picture is itself from a Governments Report 2010 and guess what they use a picture from 2002 and you all know what that despoilt view looks like now. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/02/liverpool-waters-glass-pie-in-sky-we.html
Our understanding is that an ex EH historic buildings advisor and English Heretic Peter De Figuirido is employed by Peel Holdings. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html

Another secret meeting took place on the 13th April where the Liverpool World Heritage Steering Group (what!!) all touched each other up at the Government Office for the North West at Cunard Buildings. This went on from a meeting on the 12 January.
Ian Wray was Chair and it was predominately led by John Hinchliffe our very own World Heritage waste of space. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2010/02/john-hinchliffe-liverpools-world.html
John Belchem is on the WHS steering committee as is Sarah Jane Farr as is Keith Blundell (tourism).
Louise O'Brien daughter of Fred is always around these things, but does not go out front.
What is even more alarming that old "Fuzzy felt" Fleming is on this steering committee too.
You would have thought he has done enough damage, but no. As the name suggests it is a  set up to steer through contentious plans...in secret.
More to follow.

Lottery funding has been refused for Liverpool World Heritage Site Celebration, Interpretation and Education Project.
Maybe they can see right through them.

Liverpool's World Heritage Site-The Memory.

Memories are made of this. How can you be allowed to build over a World Heritage Site with UNESCO standing by and watching? Click on the photo to enlarge, and enrage. If you go down there today it is a much differing picture. How did the English Heretics advise for this?. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/sir-neil-cossons.html Is it because they were corrupted? http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html
Because Unesco are funded by the DCMS and 15% of their funding comes from the UK permanent delegation to UNESCO. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/11/loyd-grossman-lectures-us-on-heritage.html Just take a look at what it used to look like.

John Hinchliffe-Liverpools World Heritage Waste of Space.

Liverpool’s World Heritage Officer. Yes we have one and have done for over five years. Funded by English Heritage its John Hinchliffe, the man who has sat idly by and watched the desecration of Liverpool’s World Heritage Site while doing nothing about it. What is the point in holding an office of such distinction if you roll over when any developer with a scheme to destroy key views tiggles your belly. Can you imagine letting them build the Three Black Slugs across the key views to the Taj Mahal or Stonehenge. Well Johnny come lately has. I would have been lying down in front to the bulldozers I once told him after a live Radio 4 interview whereby we called him into account over the destruction of Manchester Docks, which pre-dated the Albert Docks by 60 years. I had sent off a piece to Private Eye and it was edited for Piloti’s column that has been good to us over the years. Civic Vandalism I called it he could only stutter sitting next to me.

http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/manchester-docks-obliterated.html “What is the point in having the backbone of a jellyfish as far as world heritage principles are concerned”? I said to him outside. What is the point in allowing any old rubbish to be built without even an opinion? What is the point in masquerading?

Not from Liverpool he was bussed in from Yorkshire. He thanked Peter De Figueiredo the Heritage Fraud who was English Heretics Historic Building advisor for his help. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html  Figueiredo is now working for Peel Holdings. What good is all the money in the world if you sell your soul? Talking of selling your soul http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/henry-owen-john-english-heretic.html  here’s one we did earlier about the Heretics North West Development Director. Yes Development Director not Heritage Director Henry Owen-John.

If there was a World Heritage Officer abatement society this World Heritage Waste of Space should have been reported to them. http://www.nwda.co.uk/news--events/press-releases/200401/liverpool-world-heritage-centr.aspx  They speak with forked tongue.

What is the point of having your job description as World Heritage Officer if you are such a week willed man that you will not forward yourself for anything that upsets the Status Quo? http://www.liverpool.gov.uk/Leisure_and_culture/Tourism_and_travel/World_heritage_site/Management_plan/index.asp  Does he really believe the rubbish he writes that Liverpool has a management plan? http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2007/09/13/liverpool-ordered-to-safeguard-waterfront-64375-19782564/  You would have to be a fool to do so and even more of one to help in preparing such a lie. http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/home/liverpools-heritage-bid-is-a-site-for-sore-eyes/147046.article He wrote into the architect’s journal some time ago. http://www.openlylocal.com/documents/4238-Minutes-for-North-Liverpool-Scrutiny-Panel-meeting-May-11-2009-1-30PM  Now what is he doing about the Peel proposals.

What is the point in being there sitting in the same office as the Reich marshal Nigel Lee the Chief Planning Officer disaster who has done what the Luftwaffe couldn’t do “rip the heart out of the city”. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/knock-off-nigel.html

I hope you are happy with your conscience Mr Hinchliffe We are far from happy with the disgraceful mess that we the public have had to watch unfold while you stand idly by as World Heritage waste of space.

Liverpool Waters-Glass Pie in the Sky. We Need a Public Inquiry.

It is that easy to put a few bits of perspex on a sheet of ply and tell everyone you are going to create a 5.5 billion pound development. I think this will never happen. What will happen is Peel will get planning permission and then knock the land out to developers such as City Lofts who went bust because they could not sell the appartments in Milton Keynes-On-Sea, Princes Dock. I attended the Peel exhibition in Whitechapel, it took me ages to find it there was no signs outside. Well when I finally got in, it is as bad as what I thought. All my life I have waited for Liverpool to pull its socks up to come back on centre stage to get investment and when we do get capital investment they destroy the world heritage site. These proposals are to turn Liverpool into Shanghai-on-Sea and they are potentially as destructive to Liverpool as what has happened to the world heritage site at the Pier Head.

I spoke to someone from the architects Chapman Taylors offices called Paul Taylor quite a nice man…..unlike the Development Director Lyndsey Ainsworth who was rather rude and obnoxious especially after I told him there should be a public inquiry. I did not introduce myself but he kept on accusing people of standing in the way of progress. I have heard it all before when they rolled out the Mann Island plans the Cloud Fiasco and here we have a new set of carpet-bagging arrogants who want to foist another set of third rate blocks of flats this time on Central Docks and calling it Liverpool Waters. We want to make things happen, look forward what are you doing”? he said “Well you don’t know who I am or what I am doing" as I never introduced myself”
“We don’t have to put this show on we don’t have to” he said. As if he was doing it for our benefit I told him this is for the benefit of Peels shareholders. “Shows you just how much you know we don’t have shareholders Peel Holdings is owned by one man” he knew exactly what I meant but considering that one man will benefit from all this if it is accepted by the planning authority is a very bad reality that needs to be kept in mind. This will in fact all benefit just one man. A tax exile living in the Isle of Man. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/09/cruise-wars-liverpool-gets-full-naval.html
There was a bloke talking to him who stood there staring at me said he was a local, no local talks with that accent. A group of Peel employees gathered around and Ainsworth flipped away comments I made about world heritage as if he didn’t care. “We have people working for us who know what they are doing professional people”
“Yes like Peter de Figeurido the ex English Heretic who should have advised against Mann Island and instead sold his soul”  He did not like to be matched and became a slight bit agitated especially each time I mentioned public inquiry which I did several times just to see his reaction and his twitching. “It meets all the criteria for a…public inquiry” http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/08/peeled-in-front-of-our-noses.html What about competing against itself with Wirral Waters.
“You just dont want anything to happen to a run down place” How long have they owned it.
You only have to look at Milton Keynes-On-Sea which is Princes Docks.
What was clearly visible to me was what I warned of months ago that Peel want to make a Cruise Liner Facility, not a jetty, and they have the customs office. Why don’t you just use ours and pay the 9 million European grant back I asked. “We don’t want to we want our own”. We can see right through the perspex blocks, we have heard it all before. When I questioned him about the press reports "Dont believe what you read in these local papers" he said in his Manchester  accent.
“Yes its all politics, I said, the Salford Star is the journal what tells it straight about Peel Holdings” http://www.salfordstar.com/default.asp put Peel Holdings or the NWDA into their search box http://www.salfordstar.com/article.asp?id=452 Try this one
He also said a underwater survey has been done of the old landing stage they have let rot but Peel has no plans to demolish it. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/09/liverpool-cruise-liner-cock-up-blame.html Yes and I believe that one.

"We are doing you a favour Ashworth proclaimed", It seems that a misguided arrogance from Peel will grow in the coming months………..until we have a public inquiry.

NWDA to Probe its Own Land Sell-Off to Neptune Developments. Now Does That Make Sense?

This is how it was. Liverpool the Venice of the North, those magnificent views, so good we were made a world heritage site. A WHS for what our forebears left us. This had view survived by sheer miracle, that was the words of Graham Fisher the Chairman of the local Victorian Society during his elegant and passionate speech opposing the plans to develop the site by Neptune Developments at the planning committee that Lady Doreen Jones the Dame of Disaster http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/undeclared-interest-of-jones-vote.html  passed by a casting vote and then buggered off to where she lived just outside Chester with Clever Trevor the property developing ex Lord Mayor. Never should this have been allowed. All the power was with the NWDA who run the Government Office North West who report to the DCMS who are guilded by the English Heretics http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/sir-neil-cossons.html with their c****pted officials doing deals to further their careers. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/henry-owen-john-english-heretic.html see a couple of posts we did earlier http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html Peter de Figueiredo…. English Heretic is now I am informed employed by Peel Holdings. What good is all the money in the world if you sell your soul.

Now it is reported (badly) by the Daily Ghost that the whole of the land deal is to be investigated http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2010/01/19/northwest-development-agency-to-probe-liverpool-waterfront-land-sell-off-92534-25630638/ It is reported that the NWDA is to probe Liverpool Waterfront land sell off............which they did , how can this be right.  http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/search/label/NWDA and why are they continuing with the same old. They are funding Carbuncle after Carbuncle in the WHS. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/07/mann-island-funds-new-museum-its-fact.html

Who-ever called themselves, falsely, a reporter who put the Daily Ghost article together does not have a clue as the figures they quote as they do not add up niether does the article make sense. It appears to be another NWDA press release packaged as a damage limitation by the Daily Ghost. We thought they were getting a bit better this year but they just do not have the journalistic skills.

Loyd Grossman-Lectures Us On Heritage, After He Helped Destroy Manchester Docks.

The country’s leading heritage organisations — including the National Trust, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, Save Britain’s Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces — will next week issue an election manifesto calling for sweeping reforms to the sector.

Following a major consultation of its members, umbrella group Heritage Link, which represents more than 75 NGOs, will use its annual heritage day this Wednesday to challenge the three main political parties to end neglect of heritage.
It will propose measures including legislation to streamline heritage protection, fully restore levels of National Lottery support, investing in local authority expertise and cutting VAT on repair and restoration.
Heritage Link has a secret weapon in the form of Lloyd Grossman, the media personality and former chairman of National Museums Liverpool, who will be unveiled as its new chairman at the event in London’s King’s Cross.
Speaking exclusively to BD, Grossman revealed that culture secretary Ben Bradshaw, conservative shadow minister Ed Vaizey and Lib Dem shadow minister Don Foster, would all take part in what he called a “hustings”. http://www.bdonline.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=3154002
He said: “It’s now a very important time for the heritage sector to really begin speaking in a more co-ordinated, articulate and forceful way.”
But Heritage Link’s ambitious move was dealt a preemptive blow after Vaizey, whose Tory party remains well ahead in opinion polls, poured cold water on the plans, calling the main proposals “unrealistic” because of the recession and impending cuts in public spending.

Well another high profile career building manifesto from professional heritage people.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news//tm_headline=--8216-they-are-concreting-on-top-of-our-history--8217-&method=full&objectid=19098034&siteid=50061-name_page.html
So Loyd Grossman who as the purveyor of world heritage disaster at National Museums Liverpool, in the ultimate destruction of Manchester Docks along with the other vandals at English Heretics of which he was once Chairman. They all rode the Bulldozer that did the sod cutting for the foundations of the new Carbuncle Museum in the WHS. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/manchester-docks-obliterated.html

Asking why Unesco are inefective http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/03/why-are-unesco-so-inefective.html Unesco say English Heretics are the government advsors yet the then Chairman of the Heretics Sir Neil Cossons was working for the museums. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/05/sir-neil-cossons.html How did they get away with this.
As was another one of their heritage spivs.  Peter de Figueiredo who is now allegedly adising, and I use that term loosley Peel Holdings http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/2009/04/who-polices-heritage-police.html
I once told Loyd Grossperson that architecture is not like making a sauce and the ingredients were certainly a bad mix with him and David "Fuzzy" Felt Fleming who he got away from at the earliest he could. Grossman should be held to account for his involvement in WHS destruction not rewarded with another cushy Quango post.
http://www.bdonline.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=3129300 Amanda the editor of BD gives concern to government lack of responsibility.
http://www.bdonline.co.uk/story.asp?storycode=3152428
In the meantime Liverpools listed heritage continues to be in perilous condition and the WHS is being taken apart till it is now a joke of what was left us by our forebears.

The Wellington Rooms-Liverpools Heritage At Risk No 2

I recently highlighted its plight in a walkabout with Peter Elson http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-life-features/liverpool-special-features/2008/01/29/living-on-the-eve-of-destruction-64375-20405391/ for the Daily Ghost and it is still the same building, only the deteriation seems to have been helped by the lead on the roof going missing. What state inside to the plasterwork?
There were ghastly plans to develop it by sticking a rubic cube sort of extension on the back.
Click the link above to see him and the Reichmarshal Nigel Lee making excuses after my article sent waves out about the neglect.
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/upload/pdf/190609north_west_2009_har_register.pdf
And what of Chris Griffiths and Steve Corbett of the useless Liverpool Conseravtion office.
Next to it and with objective one funding an extension was built on the Gibbard Cathedral, that Oscar Niemeyer rip off, Paddys Wigwam while this wonderful little Georgian gem lies there, rotting,  a forelorn looking Mausoleaum to itself.

Littlewoods Edge Lane Still in Peril

The Daily Post is claiming Littlewood's on Edge Lane has been saved..... again!
This is strange this is one building we did a couple of hundred hours convincing the Council that this was worth saving. Then it was knocked out to Urban Splash and we were about to see the new tomorrow for Edge Lane....again... while instead they plan to build B&Q style sheds all over it.

English Heretic Mr Hawkins who refused to list it, said that the area should be made a conservation area. Mike "No More Than A Tory" Storey who was the Council leader at the time, was disgraced, and is now the Lord Mayor, is a schoolteacher, and was, at the time, on the board of the NWDA who owned it and he was also on the board of the Liverpool Land Development Company who were crawling all over this area just before it was handed over to Tom Floxham & Co.
Hawkins said to me he had to take into account the economic situation of the area and I made an official complaint against him as this is not EH remit.
This Conservation Area status, or listing, never happened......conveniently for those wishing to develop the area. This is all a couple of hundred yards from the Pathfinder area. http://www.edge-lane.com/
Now they want to make this into a school which may or may not be a good idea the editor of the Ghost thinks so, but what is alarming is that all the previous documentation to the plight of the area by the LPT does not come along with the current reporting and is not on the Ghost website, there was pages of it.
So a good "Storey" was had by all.
Private Eye reported our plight. SAVE and the C20th Society wrote to EH.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/education/education-news/2009/06/08/two-liverpool-schools-to-move-into-iconic-littlewoods-building-92534-23813547/
So the new dawn was announced before.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2007/10/24/developers-save-littlewoods-building-64375-19998780/
Credit Crunch his home.
http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverpool-news/regional-news/2008/09/16/urban-splash-may-have-to-slash-up-to-half-280-strong-workforce-64375-21824319/

DID MIKE STOREY HAVE A "GAY" DAY?
Blame me for the rain I wished all week that it would hiss down on "Jackanorys" float but instead it leathered it down all over the city. Sorry about that.
DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE.
I caught up with the Lord Mayors Parade in Church Street by default when I heard the band and then saw two giant green plastic Liver Turkeys walking down the street with two embarrassed people inside, faces going 'why did I volunteer for this'. Like two giant plastic chickens Tommy Cooper used as props with heads in, it was a embarrassment. Directly behind was the man himself looking like a Dickensian Character in a red coat and a dopping a trefoil hat. Some people will do anything for power. Its like watching a character from Sunset Boulavard, 'I was famous once, Ill be back'. He had just passed Reximillions office and there was no sign of him waving or joining in the celebrations. It seems they don't get on any more. The Parade went right along the outskirts of all the land Mike "Tory" Storey gave to the aristocracy his Dukeness of Grosvenor-pool. Onwards to all the land given away by the council to Beetham. Not far from the land the NWDA gave away to Neptune at the Pier Head. You know, this fella as council leader gave half of our city centre away. Berni Turner was nowhere to be seen either. It seems they dont get on anymore either. I wonder why? Storey had tried to get rid of the military from the parade, a mole at his office told, and they, at the Lord Mayors office even had to fight with him to retain what is a big calender event for raising canon fodder for the war in Iraq.
Anyway I was on to a 70th Birthday celebration for Philip Browning who edited the wonderful Buildings of Liverpool which was for a long time Liverpool's Architectural Bible.
I did not wish to hang around to see any more soggy crepe paper hanging off grim incarnations made from sqeezy bottles and toilet rolls at the Valerie Singleton school of decoration. Once the disguise falls down so you can see the milk float underneath and Ernie the milkman is sitting there fed up with a 300 decibel speaker on his head the funs over for me, so I carried on, as last year pathetic event was sad enough, and it was sunny.
Peter de Figeurido was on my table at the Atheneum lunch he or Trueheuz his partner never said a word. http://liverpoolpreservationtrust.blogspot.com/search/label/Peter%20de%20Figeurido
Though Graham Fisher of VicSox a man who has our admiration was there along with the architect David Backhouse and it is with many happy returns to Philip who was a town planner for LCC.

Peter de Figueiredo-English Heretic

Peter de Figueiredo…. English Heretic.
Who polices the Heritage Police
As Historic buildings advisor for English Heritage in Liverpool it is my opinion that you have to consider that his advice must have helped to create the mess that is Liverpool’s Pier Head as we see it today.
He carried out at public expense a full survey of the Pier Head and Albert Dock. John Hinchliffe Liverpool's World Heritage Site Officer thanked him for his assistance and advice in compiling his reports, mainly because he is not from Liverpool originally and in my opinion he obviously hadn’t had a clue what he was doing.
If I had have been historic building advisor what would my advice have been now let me see.
1. Don’t build a Oscar Niemeyer rip off museum on the site of Manchester Docks which pre-dated the Albert by 60 years and don’t pull the original dock gates off with a bulldozer arm in a act of civic vandalism that destroyed them.
2. Do not under any circumstances ruin your best world heritage views with three grotesque black monsters on Mann Island that block out the majesty of the Pier Head trio and its companion of Herbert Rowse's Ventilating Shaft at Georges Dock.
3. Under no circumstances allow the Cesar Pelli building on Chavasse Park, as it will dominate the skyline to the edge of the Pier Head?
4. Under no circumstances allow on a tiny site the awful Unity building, the one with the carport on its roof that now dominates the skyline and waters down the trio of our wonderful Pier Head trio.
5. Don’t make Princes dock look like Milton Keynes-on-Sea there is no future in this.
6. Advise all the way that Liverpool’s best asset is its historic waterfront and celebrate the fact that it is now a World Heritage Site and protect it at all costs.

Mr De Figeurido's partner is Julian Treuhertz the ex curator of National Museums Liverpool who have decimated the WHS site with the museum currntly being built at the Pier Head.
For bad architecture to triumph it does' require people who should know what they are looking at, to do nothing.

Look at his website http://www.defigueiredo.co.uk/Building_Owners_and_Developers.html showing as if with pride Mann Island decimated by the Three Grotesques. He claims "I am a member of the North West Design Review Panel" As is the architect of the Mann Island Monsters Matt Brooks of Broadway Malyan and Jim Gill the top honch of Liverpool (lack of)Vision. http://www.renew.co.uk/Pages/Article.aspx?id=177 . All in my opinion are also members of the whole backscratchers anonymous club that have done so much damage.
I am now advised on good authority that he is allegedly acting as “consultant” for a major property developer with big assets in the WHS.
I hope he is ashamed of his record and he can sleep at night, as I have to live with it.

Wayne Colquhoun
